Where's My Soul?

Megan Lonso has recently died. She finds herself in a dark lonely place where it frightens her. Is she in limbo? Or is it just a phase in death? She hears voices from above, she just doesn't understand them. Then she encounters a boy... The sequel short story will be called 'In the After Life' it will be up shortly.
The mourners gathered around in circles. Comforting each other. The mother of Megan Lonso cried heavily and had to be restrained from getting to close to the closed coffin. The body had been sliced and diced and they assume most of the cuts were inflicted while the girl was alive. The girl's brother watched as they lowered the coffin without emotions. Megan had been loved by everyone she met. I had been loved...

I'm in a dark place. I don't know how I got here. I can't feel anything. I'm moving but I don't feel the soft pressure underneath my feet. Am I floating? Why is this happening? I try to reach my hand out and I see a hazy out line of myself. Cuts and bruises everywhere. A piece of flesh hangs. I scream. Or maybe I didn't. I don't feel pressure in the air or hear anything. Am I even real? The burning confusion turns a flame of fear. It just keeps burning.

I blink. What? How did I do that? I felt the movement. It is kind of blessing. I blink again. The fear is lessening but it burns still.

A murmur of voices. I can't decipher it. What are they saying? I shrug. Woah! I actually moved. I take a step. Then another. I still don't feel my surroundings but I know I'm moving. Another murmur. This time I catch snippets.

"You... real... gone... hope," I don't understand the murmurs in between. Taking a step, I shout. Still nothing from me.

"Find... hope." I freeze. The words are confusing me. I hate the feeling, "Up here..." The voice says and I crane my neck to look up. A strange purple light. It glows bright against the black of where I am. The light vibrate, "Come..."

The light is speaking. Frightened, I run. I don't feel anything but I move. Then, I hit something hard.

"You're Megan." A husky voice says. I open my eyes from when I closed them on impact. I look up to see a handsome young man. He looks at least 17. His eyes are purple. Like above. His hair is black and his skin deeply tanned. I blink.

"You don't belong here." The boy says and I shake my head, "Speak."

"I don't know where I am... Can you help me?" To hear my voice was heaven. I am still Megan Lonso.

"Ah. This is just a stage. Listen to the voice above. You aren't meant to be here Megan Lonso."

"But, I don't understand... The voice is scary! I just don't understand," I say again and the boy smiles.

"Listen. Believe. Or you will have to face Fate." Then he turns on his heel to walk away.

"Wait! I don't understand! Who is Fate?" I got no reply.

I had been walking for a while. The whole time voices spoke. I still couldn't listen. Or wouldn't. I still not sure. Who is Fate?

"I am." A deep rich female voice said. I spun around to see a woman. She looked to be twenty-five. Her hair became light with the redness of it. Her blue eyes liquified. Her chest was something I might have been jealous of if, I wasn't so confused.

"You're Megan. I heard of you from my Dhrien. Please have a seat." She said and I only now realized we stood in a room. Shelves with books lined each wall. There was no door. A fire crackled in the hearth. Two plush seats sat facing each other by the fire. Megan sat down when Fate did.

"So. You didn't accept the voice. I must say. That is rare. It is an easier choice. If I had not been fate itself I would have chosen the voices. You're kind of like my Dhrein. Now fate must intervene so you don't get caught in limbo."

"You're Fate?" I asked timidly and she nodded. Then her features changed. Her hair is now purple and her eyes the same. Her skin is milky white.

"This is the face of Hope. The being the purple vortex send you to. I must say I feel bad for you." She changed back, "Now I must force you to choose. That is what fate does. I have to lead you to your choices. Now choose: Limbo or Hope."

"Hope." I say instantly. The woman smiles. Then she takes the form of me. A brunette with blue eyes. A tiny creature that in the glow of the fire, looks mischievous.

"Accept me." My voice says and I lean back.

"No." I say scared of myself.

"Accept me."

"NO! I won't. I don't have to except myself! Why?" Fate changes back.

"In order accept Hope you have accept the one thing you didn't while you were alive. Now do you want Hope or Limbo?"

"H-hope." I chock out. Fate changes back to me.

"Accept me." This time I take a closer look at myself. The eyes are warm. Okay. I like these eyes. The mouth curves enticingly. Okay. I accept this too. The face is sweet and innocent. I'm not afraid anymore.

"I accept." I say and I fall into a purple void.

"Hope." I say when I look upon the familiar face. The female smiles and her purple eyes twinkle.

"Megan Lonso. You may rest in peace." She says softly. I close my eyes.
