Where I Am From
Where I am from
There exists hope
Under a veil of black.
A shimmering ray peaks
Through the darkness
That is enveloped by oppression.
I come from a sea of mystery
Of strength
Of passion
Of perseverance
Of a confidence
That I am able to be
Me.
Where I am from
My noose is filled with
Joy and sadness
Laughter and tears
Love and anger
And an effervescent love and admiration of life.
Where I am from
The cows greet the new beginning of light.
A sleepy moon and friendly stars stretch back into their lair.
Little field mice scurry to and fro.
Neighbors salute one another as they pass by.
And Mother Earth prepares for one more existence.
Yes, I am from many places
Concrete and transcendent
Near and far
But at the end of the day
I know I can just be
Me.
