Where Darkness Thrives - Part VI
Part six :) more creating the army ... and you get an inside look at Merrick & Darla's thoughts of each other .
First of all,
@Cd: No , I don't like hurting people , and yes , I can think of happy things , but to me , they're just not as fun to write about , because darker things are so unlike me , and people I write of - like Darla - are so unlike me , it's fun to put myself into the character , to try to feel what I think they would feel . If you want happy stuff , look else where , if you don't like the subject I write about , don't read them . I'm not looking for negative comments, criticism is fine, but if you don't like it - you don't have to tell the world , or me .
Second - comment please :) I'm not sure what should happen next ... suggestions ? I don't need suggestions for the end though - I know what's gonna happen ...

The next few days were routine, picking the best humans for vampirehood, luring them to somewhere dark - if needed - draining them of blood, carrying them back to the house, stabbing them with the black poison dagger, taking them hunting, and bringing them back before sunrise. We - me and Merrick - managed to get between six and ten per day, which was a good number considering the standards I'd set.
Merrick was obedient to my orders, but I could sense something darker within him, deep down, something very powerful lay, untouched, untapped. I didn't think I wanted him to tap into it. I would never admit it aloud, but I was a little afraid of Merrick becoming to strong and deciding he wanted to be the leader. If we fought... I wasn't sure I'd be the one to win, and I didn't want to find out if that was the case. So I was careful around him, trying not to get mad or get him mad, not that he did anything to get me mad, but still. When I was around him - though we were never alone - I acted flirty, I wanted to make him think he meant a lot to me, but really, I felt nothing for him.
I was just using him; he was nothing but a pawn in my game, the never-ending game of strategy, the fight for power, for strength. Once I was queen, I would drink, and drink and drink and drink. All that blood would make me very strong, stronger than Merrick. I could then get him mad without fear of him killing me. Even if he was still stronger than me, I'd have bodyguards who could take him. I was comforted by that thought, until I was interrupted.
"Um, Darla, what do I do with the body?" The boy I was with asked.
I shrugged. "Leave it, the humans will find out about us one way or another, might as well be sooner rather than later."
Merrick's POV
I tuned out the sounds of the feeding vampires slurping the blood up greedily. I looked up to see the moon was half full. Interesting. Darla had mentioned something about the moon playing a crucial part in a vampire's world, though I couldn't remember why. Something about the full moon, and blood, which caught my interest, and I now couldn't get it off my mind. I had to know now, it was crucial for my concentration for me to know. I'd have to ask Darla later. Speaking of her, she was a little weird. Around me, she acted flirty and sugar-sweet, but I can sense the fakeness of it. She doesn't like me, she's using me, I could tell.
She only let me stay because I was strong, and listened to her. I had a reason for doing this, for not just taking the lead from her, as I could do. I wanted her to lead this because it took a lot less energy to just listen and obey than to command. If anyone decided not to listen to her, she'd need me, and she would owe me, though I knew she would give me what I wanted when I asked for it, but I didn't need her approval, if I really wanted to I could take her down, but I wasn't going to do that. I needed her. But eventually the tables would turn, eventually - probably soon, actually - she'd be queen. We would have so much power; we would have everything we could ever want. We could do whatever we want. But that was still a ways off; there was still a chance we might lose. Darla knew that too, but I could tell she was trying not to think of it, negativity wouldn't really help anyway.
"Merrick?" A sweet, sugary voice came.
"Yeah?" I said, a little startled.
"We want more." The cheerleader-perfect girl sang.
"Are you still thirsty?" I asked.
"Well, no, but we want more."
"Well," I said in a growl. "You aren't getting more."
"Why not?" There was a note of uncertainty that tainted her voice.
"Because, if you go around drinking and drinking, people will notice and we'll all be in big trouble."
"What kind of trouble?" One of the guys asked, a big, cocky type.
"The kind you don't want to get into. The kind I don't want to get into either."
He shrugged. "No one will know."
"Yes," I growled. "Yes they will."
He shrugged again. "It doesn't matter. We're thirsty, we're going to feed some more." He turned.
"I don't think so." I said coldly.
"It doesn't concern you," He said over his shoulder.
I lost it.
I tackled him to the ground.
"What the - " He managed to yelp before I had my hands around his throat, cutting off his air supply. I tightened my hands, tighter, tighter, and then I ripped with all my strength. There was a satisfying cracking sound as his head was torn off. I got up, took a set of matches out of my pocket, lit one, and dropped it on his headless body, which immediately erupted in flames. I looked back to the young vampires I was with, unconcerned. They were all staring at me in respect and fear, just the way I liked it.
"If any of you disobey or question our orders that will be your fate as well." I tell them, eerily calm.
They seem to unfreeze, and nod fearfully. I smile angelically.
"Let's get back to the house, the sun's about to rise, and I have things to do." And plans to make, but I left that unspoken.
