When You Find Yourself Alone

This poem has been written for inclusion in a meeting of Bearevement Counselors as we search for the answers to the question asked by so many ...........what happens after death to those that we love and if they are still with us in some way.
I reach for your hand
So dark in the night
My fingers curl around
Holding you tight
In sleep I can feel you
Close by, lying next to me
Dreaming of dancing on a bridge by the sea

Days full of laughter
For you and for me
When life was for living
For loving and giving
I awake from my slumber
So cold and alone
My fingers uncurl
My head in a whirl

In stark realization
I remember you’ve gone
To a place so unknown
Are you cold or alone?

I can no longer see you
But know you are there
Sitting beside me in a favorite chair
Are you the breeze in the trees?
Or the wind in the night

Or are you really beside me holding me tight?
This is a question
No answers I’ve found
Neither high up in heaven
Or here on the ground.
