When Two Worlds Collide - Chapter 1

Charlotte Carol, Teen SPY/ FBI extraordinaire...
Charlotte Carol Teen, SPY/ FBI extraordinaire. Yup that was her, one of the most talented teens in the world. She was the one who’s in lot of dangerous situations, the one that not much people had even seen, the one that is loved and hated, the one that kick butt, well usually anyways… And how she got to become this ‘great teen’ I suppose you may ask? Well it all started on a chilly night five years ago, when she was twelve. It started out on such an ordinary day, the kind of day with blue skies and very little clouds around.

I woke up on a Saturday morning, drenched in sweat. I knew that I had the same dream again. The dream about Zach, the same dream I kept on having and the same dream that is eating me alive right now. It was the dream that always took place in what looked like an abandoned mansion surrounded by a large forest and it always seemed to have bad people in it like gangs.
Sighing, I sat up and thought long and hard about everything. The memory was clear and true to me, the memory was when my best friend, Zach didn’t show up for school. I remembered it like it was yesterday…well actually it was yesterday a year ago yesterday. It was in grade sixth when he disappeared to who knows where. At first I thought he was sick or something, but days passed and then days grew into months. He never showed up until finally I decided to go to his house.

When I got to his house and rang the door bell, no one answered. Frustrated, I pressed five more times quickly in a row until I saw the door open. There was a young girl standing there, about eight and immediately I knew who it was. It was Alison, Zach’s little sister. He also had a little brother, but I knew that he was probably doing chemotherapy and was at a hospital right now. "Who is it?" I heard a voice and then a lady appeared. That lady was Sally, Zach’s mother and she was friends with my mom ever since I met him in kindergarten. My dad…well he was a little different, but I had no idea how much he affected Zach. When she saw me, she stopped walking and spoke, but I knew it wasn’t directed to me. "Go to your room Alison." She said before looking at me. Alison whined, but when her mom ignored her, she sighed before walking up the stairs. "Look Charlotte, if you are wondering where Zach is…I don’t really know." She said quietly. I looked strangely at her for a moment before looking towards the ground for another moment. "What happened and doesn’t the police know about this?" I asked. She was quiet for a long moment, before speaking. "Come in Charlotte and I’ll tell you." She replied simply before turning around. I nodded before going into the house and closing the door behind me. Then I followed her into the kitchen and took a seat on a chair. Sally looked at me once more and spoke. "Well, I don’t know what really happened, but as you know that his father died about a year ago from a car crash and how we just found out about Jake’s cancer…" She began slowly. I nodded as I waited impatiently for her to tell me more. "Well, Zach had been really stressing out about everything and about how we don’t have much money…" She stated.
I nodded again before speaking. "Well, he seemed perfectly fine and he acted pretty much normal at school." I protested. "Yes, I heard, but he isn’t. He was suffering at home. Then one night, we kind of had a fight about everything and then the next morning I found him gone. I think he might have ran away." She said flatly. "I also contacted the police and all I know is that they are still trying to find him." She added. On the corner of my eyes, I could see that she was crying. I didn’t really know what to say, I was speechless almost. "But, he wouldn’t do that…would he?" I said slowly, mostly to myself. She just sighed before shrugging herself.

Every time I see him, he was so helpful and cheery. It was funny because he was the nicest person in school and he was pretty popular. All the girls had crushes on him and even the eighth graders liked him. It seemed like he had almost everything. I guess he finally realized how unfair life was….That there was no happy endings and that life is never a fairytale. And that life is cruel and evil things happen a lot. But he was always nice and he got popular not because of the bad things he did, but it was the good things. He always included and respected everyone in the school. He was one of the few people that get popular because of doing good things and not doing bad things. He was a perfect role model in my eyes. He was also an advice giver and a good one too. Each day, he has millions of kids crowding around him, but he always has time for me and his buddies too.

Finally I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at Zach’s mother. "Thanks, now I need to find him." I said before rising up from my chair. "I think I am the only one who can do it." I added quietly. "I promise to bring him back, even if it takes years." I stated.
She just looked at me funny, before nodding. I guess she might have thought that if the police couldn’t find him still, then what are the chances that I could? "Bye." I said quietly, almost in a whisper as I left the kitchen and towards the door way. There was just silence as I opened the door, but when I was about to close it, I heard her voice again. "Please, if you find him, it would be the greatest thing you could help us with." She added. I nodded before closing the door.

Suddenly my flash back stopped and I was back in my own room. I blinked for a moment before sighing. I had tried to find him, but there was no luck at all. It was like he disappeared forever. I felt water on my hands and looked up. It wasn’t from my roof that was starting to crack a bit. It took me some time, but I then I realized that it was me who was crying.
I curled my fingers and I felt my nails digging into my skin. I wanted to feel something else then memories of pain. But it kept on coming back…The memories that stretched way back to kindergarten. She remembered feeling scared when she was stuck on the monkey bars at school and couldn’t get down. She was afraid to hurt herself, but when Zach appeared, he tried to convince her to get off. When that didn’t work, he only told her to trust in him and to just let go because he was going to catch her. At that time, she was pretty light and small. She was what you called fragile almost, but now that’s a whole new story. It was that voice of his that made her let go. When she did, she screamed only for a moment and felt strong arms catch her. Well not really because Zach ended up falling down too, but they both laughed non-stop.

Once again I snapped back from day dreaming and this time, I stood up and got changed.
I need anything to get my mind off things, so I decided to go and walk around the neighborhood. A year had passed since I promised to go and find Zach, but nothing turned up of him and the investigators gave up. I still had some sort of hope with me, even in my weakest moments. But now I dedicated myself into helping people like Zach did. I took it one step further and helped solve mysteries, kind of like Nancy Drew, but I wasn’t as good as she was. Yet I grew more experience and then as I walked down the street I was stopped by a kid around my age. I found out that I was added to the SPY Kids team. It took a long time, but I rose in rank and a lot of people thought I was going to be useful. And that is how it started. Over the courses of the years, I was trained to do almost everything a Spy can…I even learned how to kill bad guys, but it was more in Karate training and self defending. But I did eventually learn how to shoot a gun and boy was it cool! I solved so many mysteries and hunted down bad guys, but ever time I tried to find Zach, another mission pops up or I am just not lucky. I am on the news now and then, but Spies try and keep themselves a secret because bad guys can kill just easily. But now, I got a mission from head quarters, a dangerous one…the one that would change my life forever.
