When They Cried (10)
Chapter 10 - The New Problems

"I think I am in love!" Quinn sighed heavenly at June’s locker.

"Gee, what’s his name?" Out of them all June really liked Quinn because of her openness and her politeness. Quinn just had that spunk to her.

"Billy." Quinn gloated. "Billy Waites!"

"Huh?" Billy was this quiet weird Senior. He was eighteen, had long hair that covered his eyes and liquid clear blue eyes. Quinn almost melted on the spot when he stood in front of them. "You wanted something, Quinn?"

"Yeah." She nodded and looped her arm in his. "What is you favorite color?"

Quinn began to drag him along. Tristan showed up riding his board down the hall. Stopping in front of June.

"I see my cousin has found a new victim." Tristan laughed stuffing his bag and board into his locker.

"Victim?" June giggled. "He does seem cute in his own mysterious way."

"But not as cute as me." Tristan added with a smirk. June leaned up and kissed softly on the cheek.

"Oh come on. You are such a tease." Tristan reached for her but she leaned away. "Bigger tease!"

"Which is why you aren’t getting anything!" June giggled heading off to class. He would get her later.
………………….
Audrey decided home was the best for now. She wanted to see her boys again. They headed home to a empty house. Expect for Holmes barking and yelping at his toy animal. Ryan eyed the dog and shook his head.

"Nasty mutt!" Ryan grumbled as he was about to kick the dog.

"No! Don’t you dare!" Audrey dove for the dog. "I love him. He is so cute."

Audrey kissed the dog and Ryan sighed. "He is just trash. Trash your daughter had the nerve to bring home."

"Why do you blame stuff on her all the time?!" Audrey demanded. "She is the only one I trust with my boys."

"You shouldn’t." Ryan chugged down a beer. "She just manipulates them. Soon they will be calling her mommy."

"That’s not true. You don’t know anything!" Audrey’s heart was breaking. She did love her boys. She loved June too. But Audrey’s love wasn’t correct love.
………………….
"So are you staying over again?!" Lucas asked as Tristan drove the Macashire children home today. "Love the car by the way!"

"Thanks." Tristan thumped the steering wheel and smiled. Jeremiah stuck his head out of the window. "And no because I have to speak with my dad."

"Aauu!" Jeremiah giggled. He made wolf ears in class today so he was in his own world today.

Tristan stopped the car in front of the house. He reached for a kiss on the lips but again June hadn’t given it to him. Again. She laughed and tickled him softly. He frowned as she closed the door and waved.

"Mommy is back." Nathanial whispered as he walked into the house.

"Hey guys!" Audrey held out her arms for her boys but Lucas and Nathanial walked past her.

"Mommy, look at what June and I made today at school!" Jeremiah showed Audrey the ears. "Aauu!"

"He is a wolf?" Ryan took the ears. "This is what they teach my kids?"

"It was mommy and daddy session. You guys weren’t around so June had to fill in." Nathanial said drinking a cup of chocolate milk. "Not like you would be sober enough to tell which one is Jeremiah."

"What has gotten into this family? One wants to keeps a mutt, one goes around thinking he is king, my son making wolf ears and you kids have no respect at all!" Ryan went to his bedroom and slammed the door. Audrey, as if on cue, ran off to calm him down.

"Look at what you guys did! Ungrateful!" Audrey ran off.

June couldn’t help it. She began to laugh. Laughing at her stupid mother. June laughed so hard, she had to sit on the sofa just to catch a breath.

"Don’t get me started on ungratefulness!" June yelled. She was going crazy now but she didn’t care. "the two of you leave, for weeks, never come back, never clean and never show love at all! I do everything for this damn family and all I get is a kick in the stomach, yelled at, beaten up, raped, and used up! But no, everyone still runs to him and you because you are mommy and daddy. They aren’t always going to run to you, mom! They are going to, sooner or later, realized all you have ever done for us, was provide shelter with no god damn food. Then have the nerve to call me ungrateful!"

"Yeah!" Jeremiah stood up. "I don’t like it here, either!"

"Me either!" Lucas joined. "I hate it here. Constant fears."

"I just down right hate this entire family or at least the ones that don’t leave every chance they get!" Nathanial joined his siblings in their fight.

Audrey couldn’t believe her ears. She didn’t care about all the other stuff. She knew they were true but it was one thing she swore she wouldn’t want to hear. The word was bright and clear as it was spat at her. Like it was a knife in the heart. How can one word hurt you just like that? Oh that’s right, because the man who loved raped your daughter and you didn’t know about it.
…………………………..
Tristan was eating a bowl of popcorn while lounging on the couch. Homework was done, dinner wasn’t done yet and he had no idea what to do. He wanted to see June but that meant meeting her family. Tristan cringed at that thought.

"They would murder me alive!" Tristan sighed.

"Who would?" Leslie loved her son as she watched him think. Every since he was mere toddler he would sit in that position and think hard.

"June’s mother and her mom’s boyfriend." Tristan could never really lie to his mother. She was just this fragile women with red-orange hair and a sweet mother voice. Something June may never have.

"So you want to make it official by meeting her family?" Leslie laughed. "Then just do it."

"I can’t." He couldn’t lie to his mother but he couldn’t tell her everything!

"Why?" Leslie knew something was wrong. And she wasn’t going to give up without a fight.

"Because…" Tristan couldn’t find an answer that wasn’t lying to her. "Its hard to explain and I am not sure if June would like it if I told you her secret."

"Trist, that’s good boy you are. Don’t mind your father. He is such a…"

"Mom, you don’t hate them, do you?" Tristan couldn’t help it.

"I never did. I was just like her not too long. I think every person was like her. I chose a path and she chose a path. I couldn’t make her be that way. Plus, maybe if June asked her, Audrey has been through a lot." Leslie shook her head and frowned.

"Like what?" Tristan sat up now.

"She wasn’t born this way. She was rich. She use to wear beautiful clothes and smile." Leslie couldn’t believe she was tell her son this. "Then one day, she meant a very nice man. Her family thought he would be perfect for her. But he wasn’t. He was down right evil but something as evil as he was could love her right."

"What do you mean?" Tristan didn’t like how this story was heading.

"He use to…well he never wanted to marry her." Leslie couldn’t fight the tears. "she was my friend and when she told everything was fine, I should have known that what I saw wasn’t fine. He use to beat her constantly and do stuff nasty things to her. I don’t think she ever told her parents. She led a long life of drugs and alcohol. The only things that made her forget when he left her finally."

"She meant nice people." Tristan informed.

"Yes but haven’t you ever wonder what happened to June’s father and Nathanial’s father? They were too nice, she was always expecting an evil side to appear on her. June’s father use to buy her dresses and take her out for drives. Give her kisses, read her bedtime stories, give her soothing baths and love her to death. I don’t know where he went after that but June missed him." Leslie pat her son’s head. "Make things right for her. I already know what he did. Her mother won’t let her daughter go down that road. Trust me."
…………………………..
Tristan knew now that he just about loved June completely. He had one thing he would like to fulfill, as he rang her doorbell later that night. He was freezing his butt off as he waited for the door to open. Audrey answered door. Her was hair messy and wet. She let Tristan in.

"I am here to see June. I am Tristan, her best friend." Tristan put a hand out and Audrey gladly shook it.

"She is her room." Audrey went into the kitchen.

Tristan knew where her room was exactly. June was laying down on her bed, her feet dangling in the air and as she kicked back and forth, reading a book. Tristan thought how impolite it would be to scare her so he knocked instead. June turned around to see him. Her beat fast she looked at him.

"What are you doing?" She whispered looking into the hall.

"Your mom let me in. Or at least I think that’s your mom." Tristan grinned.

"What if Ryan says something?" June whispered.

"I don’t care. " Tristan leaned forward to kiss her but June moved away.

"Not with everyone around!" June giggled. She scanned the dim hallway and kissed him.

"Do you mean I have to sneak kisses from my girlfriend?" Tristan played with June’s shirt. He could feel her cool skin.

"Not exactly." June stared at the room down the hall. It was her mother’s room. The door was ajar and light escaped it. She wonder what Ryan was doing. "Come in and sit down. You are no stranger to this room."

Tristan laid on the bed with June. They both kicked their legs in the air hitting against each other. Tristan didn’t know what the book was about but he was close to June on her bed and that’s all he wanted. June was leaning against him loving the warm heat he radiate into her body as she read her book. Audrey watched them from the doorway. She loved how Tristan made her daughter smile like that. Ryan appeared too and he didn’t like what he saw.

"What’s this?" Ryan asked as he watched them.

"Its something called love." Audrey smiled dreamily.

"Lady, he just wants her for one thing and one thing only!" Ryan called out. Tristan and June looked back and saw the people that had crowded the doorway with affection and anger.

They would have raced off the bed but June stayed put and turned her head back to her book. Tristan did the same. He reached for her ear.

"What do we do?"

"Ignore them. I don’t care about him. He needs to get a life. He isn’t my dad." June didn’t whisper it and Ryan heard it. His heads balled into fists but Audrey smacked him.

"Touch my daughter, you will be sleeping on the curb!" Audrey giggled as she went to check on her boys.

"Yeah I won’t touch her daughter alright." Ryan cracked his knuckles. "But she never said anything about the boy."

Ryan cackled as he walked the hallway. Tristan watched him and shivered. He was going to have to watch his back.
