Hours and hours and money spent on production and advertising won’t mean a thing if the product is not marketable! Forget the fact that it is your brain child, forget that parental affection and analyze your product from your prospect’s point of view and don’t lose your chance of building a home internet business, by perfecting an unmarketable product.

What then should you do to ensure that you don’t fall into this trap?
Firstly the product you choose will need to have basic appeal to start with.
Is it better, different or cheaper than anything similar being offered for sale?

If you can answer yes to any one of the three then your first hurdle has been overcome. Don’t be too concerned if the product is not cheaper than a competitive product, if it scores well from the point of view of being better or different it is likely that it will still do well if it is competitively priced. If the product can’t be seen to be better or different then chopping the price is not a wise move, apart from reducing margins it could well cheapen the image and therefore be seen by some as of poorer quality.

OK then, having laid some guidelines then for basic appeal it is necessary now to analyze your product for benefits, if it has basic appeal and no benefit you are up the river without a paddle again, so this is a very important point to remember, it’s the benefits that sell your product.

If something has an appeal it does not always mean it has a benefit, being cheap might be appealing but saving money is a benefit. An example might be that some manufacturer or other might manufacture their product to the highest quality but without being keyed to the latest fashion trend. This is great in that the basic need of the product has been fulfilled and it appeals because it is better than some in quality but all has no meaning if the product is not desired because it is not "trendy" and therefore has no benefit for the fashion conscious consumer.

Think about needs and desires and the difference between these words.
Shelter against the elements is what you need but you desire a penthouse apartment with sea views and underground garaging. You need something you can’t get along without but you desire something you THINK you can’t get along without.

Building a home internet business will be that much more successful then if your new product not only has basic appeal but is also going to fulfill both needs and desires. Now, and this is important, you will be courting marketing disaster if you think that because your prospect is in need of your product it will naturally follow that he desires it too. If a child needs foul tasting cough medicine to cure his ills, do you think he desires it too?

So does anyone need your product? People don’t always desire what they need.
Will it bring benefits by filling the needs and the desires of enough people?
Will it bring romance, will it bring a sense of security, will it bring power or will it make people look or feel better?

Don’t forget either that people buy emotionally and not always rationally either so appeal to their emotions satisfy both needs and desires and check that your product fulfills one of the basic appeals and you have a your product ready for market and you are well on your way to building a home internet business.
