When Lightning Strikes
Sarah is given the chance to start over...
Sarah was the last one at the bar besides the bartender, everyone else left over an hour ago when last call was announced. Being a doctor and all and having to work double and triple shifts, she adapted to staying up late most of the time. As she finished up her last drink, she slowly made her way to the front door of the local pub. Swaying back and forth she pulled on the door, but then she realized you have to push it to open it up, she turned towards the bartender to see if he was watching and then giggled like a sixteen year old girl going out on her first date, then pushed on the door and left.
When she finally made it out to the street, rain was beginning to fall and the distant rumble of thunder could be heard. Lightning bolts shot out from the dark luminous clouds and they lit up the starless night.
Reaching in her purse searching for the keys, she pulled out a small vile instead. Shaking - she unscrewed the cap, and tried to pour out some white powder onto her finger, but dropped it in the murky water below. Cursing... and feeling the urge to vomit, Sarah staggered across the empty street and walked into the dark alley, leaning her back against the wall she slowly slid down to the ground.
Wearing a hooded cloak, A dark figure steps out from the shadows that lurk in the alley, As he walks up to Sarah, it appears he's floating on air. As he travels through the puddle of water, his feet do not get wet or make one ripple in the water. Kneeling down beside her, he lifts her head up and whisper's in her ear, "You my child are traveling down a most dangerous road, and I've been following you for some time now. I've watched you fail more than you succeeded. It's time for me to intervene; I believe you need help finding your way back from these dark times."
The cloaked figure brushes her long black hair back from her glossy eyes and kisses her on the forehead. "You blame the death of your mother for the sins you have committed, your father blames himself." A loud rumble of thunder echoes through the dark alleyway and the rain begins to fall harder than before.
"I'm going to give you the gift of going back in time, and let you change the outcome of your life, but I will only do this for you on one account, I will send you back on my terms, do you understand?" the cloaked figure explained.
Sarah rolls over and looked up at the cloaked figure standing above her; she raises her arm up towards him, "Who..." taking a deep breath, then lets out a sigh, "Are ... you...?" then drops her arm in the puddle; splashing her already wet face.
"Well if you must know who I am Sarah, then I will tell you, you see my name is Christopher and I'm what you would call a Watcher. And once in a while we are allowed to help someone in need and you Sarah Mitchell... are my someone!" He said.
"When you wake, you will be traveling down a road that you've already traveled. You will get a second chance to correct your mistakes. Just remember, your father needs you, as much as you need him." The cloaked figured stands back up and then turns, disappearing back into the shadows where he immerged from earlier.
Sarah woke up early the next morning and the darkness still loomed, she heard the distant sound of her Dad's voice calling her name.
"Sarah, honey," he leans over and shakes her shoulder lightly.
"It's your Mother, she's asking for you, I think it's coming to that time," She rolled over and looked up at her father, "Dad, Dad is that really you?" she asked with hesitation.
"Yes honey it's me, why... did you think I was someone else?" A loud thunderous boom echoes through the room and rain splatters against her bedroom window.
"Uh...m...; No, I'm just a little groggy. What's that you wanted?"
"Are you sure your all right Sarah?" he asked again, this time with a more puzzling look on his face.
Then another bolt of lightning exhilarated the mysterious sky, lighting up the dark dreary morning scattering ominous and eerie shadows throughout Sarah's bedroom. Shaking it off, she stood up and looks at her Father, "Dad I know I can't save Mom like I promised you and I'm sorry. I just want you to know that I love you very much!" she wraps her arms around him and gives him a big hug. "I Love you Dad! I really do!" He looks at her and kisses her on the forehead, "I love you too! Now c'mon, let's go see Mom."
Holding each other's hands, they walked down the long hallway into the living room, pausing... she sees her relatives standing around the room. Tears start to roll down her face and her Mother looks up and raises her arm waiting for Sarah to take hold. She runs to her and puts her head on her chest and grasps hold of her hands and holds them close to her heart until she takes her last breath of life.
Tears start flowing like a river as Sarah looks deep into her Mothers lifeless eyes, "I will become someone you will be proud of Mom, I promise." She leans in and gives her a final kiss and says goodbye.
THE END.
