Description
People sometimes confuse the wheaten terrier mix dogs with other types of terriers such as the Old English Sheepdog and sometimes the Lhasas. They are compact and squarely proportioned dogs who have a long head and a rectangular body. Compared to the size of their body, the black nose of these dogs is bigger. Their lips are black in color and they have teeth that meet in a scissor bite. The ears of these dogs droop down and are in the form of a 'V'. The eyes of these dogs are brown in color. The front paws are straight, compact, and round.
The color of the fur of the wheaten terriers changes during the first few years of the dog's life. The puppies, when they are born, are born with either brown or red colored fur and black colored mouth and ears. Once they are at least two years old, they reach the proper color of the adult dogs. Till then, they undergo various changes.
Size and Weight
The weight of the dog varies from 30 - 40lbs. The female dogs weighs less than the male dogs. The length of the dogs varies between 18 to 20 inches, with the female dogs being shorter than the males.
Temperament
These dogs are playful dogs and they are very friendly. They are alert and thus they can be good watch dogs. One great dog behavior trait you will notice in them is that they get along very well with children, as they are medium-sized dogs good with children. You have to teach them how to behave when they are young so that they can grow up into well behaved dogs. But it's not too late to teach them good behavior. It needs patience to teach them some good behavior. These dogs make great family dogs. They adjust to their environment and to people very quickly. Nothing makes them happier than playing games with their masters and learning new tricks. They do not need a big space to play around. A small yard will do. They do need daily exercises, so take them out for a walk every day.
Health Problems
If you have seen this mix, you will realize that these dogs are more prone to dog fleas because of the thick fur that covers their body. They might also suffer from various allergies. These dogs are also prone to some of the protein wasting diseases. So that they do not suffer from these problems, good care should be taken. Their fur should be cleaned and trimmed and they should be given proper healthy food. With proper care, these dogs can live up to 12 to 15 years.
