If you have filed bankruptcy, you probably are unsure of what the next step you should take. The truth is that most people make mistakes when trying to reestablish themselves after a bankruptcy. Today I went to discuss, mistakes that people make in after bankruptcy credit repair. Once you know what they are, you should be able to avoid these pitfalls!

They don't start quick enough!

Many people will put off repairing their credit after bankruptcy. After all, they've just been through a traumatic experience and are not eager to jump back into the credit game. While this is certainly understandable, the reality is that credit repair needs to start immediately.

They don't get a copy of their credit report!

Many people to think that after they file bankruptcy, reviewing their credit report is not necessary. The reality is that this is one of the most important steps to take. Why? Because creditors routinely fail to report the accounts that have been included in a bankruptcy accurately. They will continue to show these accounts as being open and currently pass due.

They don't establish new credit immediately!

There's no way to gain back credibility without establishing new credit. Many people think that there's no point in applying for credit after they have filed bankruptcy. After all who would lend to them? The reality is that there are quite a few lenders who are happy to work with people who have had a troubled past. They know you can't file bankruptcy again for at least 10 years, and are willing to take a risk-especially if they have some collateral.

The only reestablish one kind of credit!

While getting an after bankruptcy credit card is a good thing to do after bankruptcy, the reality is that you need more than one type of credit. Why? Because a portion of your credit score is determined by the mix of credit you have. You need to have both revolving and installment accounts. Now, you may be thinking that there's no way anyone will give you an installment loan after you’ve filed bankruptcy. While it is certainly more difficult, there are things you can do. Perhaps the easiest thing to do is to go down to your bank and open a CD and take out a loan against it. This installment loan will help you reestablish a good mix of credit.

They failed to establish a budget and fall back into the same habits!

One of the worst things people can do is go right out of the habits that got them in trouble in the first place. While establishing new credit is important, it is critical to develop new financial habits or you'll end up right back where you started.

While most people make at least some of these mistakes, the reality is that they are all easy to avoid. Now you should be prepared to repair your credit after bankruptcy without mistakes!
