What to Look for in Ski-In Ski-Out Breckenridge Lodging

This article covers what to look for when researching and booking ski-in ski-out lodging accommodations in Breckenridge, Colorado. If you're headed to the slopes this winter, you should be aware that the phrase ski in ski out doesn't always mean your accommodations will be found at the foot of the mountain.
When searching for lodging in Breckenridge, Colorado, it's likely you'll likely notice that the phrase "ski-in ski-out" is used to describe the locations various accommodations around town. Long ago, property management companies realized the incredible lure of these words, and began using them in the marketing of their resorts, condominiums, timeshares and private vacation homes. Though the phrase generally conjures up images of accommodations that are mere steps from the slopes, where chairlift access couldn't be any easier, the reality is that "ski-in ski-out" has been adapted to describe lodging properties that are truly nothing of the sort.

Many Breckenridge accommodations do provide true slopeside accommodations, however, the vast majority who describe themselves as such have stretched the truth to at least some extent. This could mean that a condominium hotel sits at the far end of a pedestrian plaza linking it with the resort's base area, or it might be that you find yourself hiking to the nearest chairlift on an ungroomed trail through the forest. Since these "ski access trails" are often too narrow to be groomed by the resort's snow grooming equipment, they are often icy or even impassable as a result of deeply drifted snow.

Other Breckenridge accommodations may offer ski-out access, but lack a trail system that doesn't require hiking back up the mountain to return to your lodging. A true slopeside property should provide direct and immediate access to the slopes in both directions, allowing easy access to your lodging throughout the day.

The lesson to take away from this is simple: When researching and booking your ski in ski out lodging in Breckenridge, Colorado, make sure that you know exactly what it is that you are getting. Property management companies in Breckenridge may have adopted varying definitions of what ski-in ski-out truly means, and as a result, you should question your reservationist thoroughly as to the actual location of your lodging.
