What to do during the Winter in Argentina?
Argentina is for many travelers one of the most beautiful country in South America, with their waterfalls, subtropical forest, beautiful vineyards and friendly people that make you fell like you are home. Learn how to find beautiful places, the best attractions and find out what is the cheapest time of the year for traveling to Argentina.
In the South America, there is a big country near the Andes called Argentina. This country is so special and it’s perfect for anyone, it doesn’t matter what are you into, this country has it all. If you are mote into sports and active vacations you can go there for hiking, skiing, trekking, horse riding and a lot of other things. What ever you choose you want regret it.
Before you start with your vacation you have to decide where do you want to go and what do you want to do. Like I said, Argentina is really big country so you should choose if you want to spend your time on a vacation by the sea, breathing the fresh air in the mountains or do you like more spending time in the country side.
Warmer or colder weather?
The first thing, after you decide where are you going, is to see what is the weather like. As I said before, Argentina is a very big country so it’s difficult to say what is the weather like in Argentina because it’s different in different parts of the county. But I will tell you approximately what can you expect and in what time of the year.
One thing that you maybe didn’t know is that Argentine is placed in the Southern Hemisphere and by that it has reversed seasons. That means when it’s snowing in the US, in Argentina is summer. The weather varies around the country especially because of the Andes. You can find in Argentina everything, from subtropical in the north to cold in the south. The only place where the weather is really unpredictable is the Andes. You can find there rainfall and flood but you can also find extreme heat or even snow. There is also a unique hot and dry wind called Zonda.
Argentina is beautiful country and you can visit it during the whole year. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is the far south. Is extremely cold and unpleasant there and most attractions and hotels are closed in that area during the winter.
The seasons with most attractions are winter and summer, but in the same time they can be not so pleasant (too hot summer). Patagonia is a story for itself. Most of the year is very mild on the east and glacial on the south. But the weather there is very unpredictable and it can change drastically.
The important things you should remember – summer lasts from December-March, the winter lasts from June-July. The best weather is in March, April, September, October and November.
Crowds in Argentina
Unfortunately the crowd is hard to avoid, unless you want to go in the low season. Yes, the high season and in the time of holidays the crowd is unavoidable. So, if you don’t like crowds than don’t go during the summer, winter or holidays. Or if you must try to stay somewhere out of town.
Fun time in Argentina
You can not get bored in Argentina, really. There are so many things you can do, you just have to pick. Here are some tips to help you start.
Winter (Jun-Aug)
North Patagonia/Mendoza - skiing
Northeast - Iguassu Falls
Spring (Sep-Nov)
Buenos Aires - the most beautiful season, especially in November with the jacarandas in blossom
Patagonia - The whales come to Peninsula Valdes
Summer (Jan-Feb)
Patagonia - trekking, horse riding, sightseeing in general, fishing
Parana River - fishing
Andes - trekking, alpinism, horse riding
Autumn (Apr-May)
Patagonia - sightseeing, especially in the north part
Northwest - trekking, horse riding
Northeast - visiting Iguassu Falls
The best and the cheapest
As you can probably assume, the highest prices are in the high season (December-February and July-August) because in that period the weather is great (it’s summer/winter) and there are lot’s of holidays (Christmas, New Year) and a ski season.
If you want to save some money then I recommend coming in low season, at September, or at April / June.
That’s it!
Ok, you have all the basic info, now you can start with real planning like booking your flights and finding the right accommodation.
Have a nice trip!
