What the Hell - 1
Here we are...
I woke up to the sound of knocking on the door. I looked at my wall clock. Blimey! 5:30? Who the heck would come round at 5:30? In the AM? I opened the door to my bedroom groggily and padded to the front door and opened it. "Marissa? What the heck...?" She burst out crying and launched herself into my arms. 10 minutes later, I found myself in the park with Marissa, scuffing my old sandals on the floor. "Did you recognize the guys?" "I...I think one looked like my dad!" She said, breathing after a lot of coaching. "Oh Riss. Your dad isn't coming back, darling." "I know!" She cried, her sobbing now hysterical. I hugged her close. "I think we need to call Jake." She nodded and pulled her phone out of her pocket and dialed Jake's number. I squeezed her hand tightly. "Hello? Jake? It's me. Who do you think it is? You're one and only? Oh for Christ's sake, it's Marissa! Mm. Can you meet me and Mills in the park? Thanks babe. Bye. Bye. Buh bye..." I grabbed the phone and ended the call. Rissa laughed, and hugged me. "He'll be here in five!" She breathed, obviously relieved. "Thank God for Jake!" I fidgeted on the bench. She immediately hugged me and mumbled in my ear, "Jake has a lot of mates from Rugby..." I perked up big time. Jake and Marissa started dating a week before. Apparently he had a load of fit mates...
"Jakeeey!" She screamed and sprinted across the park to me. Soon we were locked in a kiss. I saw her friend, Millie standing in the background. I kissed Marissa's cheek and waved to Millie. "Hi babes!" I said, staring at my beautiful girlfriend. She had curly black locks that tumbled to her waist and peachy lips I could kiss all day. I hugged her close and breathed in the sweet smell of coconut shampoo. "What's the problem?" I took her hand and sat with her on a bench, next to Millie. "I told you about my cow of a dad, right?" She said. I nodded. "He's been giving me horrible nightmares. Last night I dreamed he was chasing me with a gun then I came to a main road and all the cars were coming and then -" She gabbled. I placed my lips on hers. "Shh, it's okay. Your dad's gone now babe." I soothed. Millie got up with a start. "I'll be off then!" She said with a weak smile. "Bye!" I said. She sprinted away. I sat Marissa on my knee and nibbled at her ear, wiping her tears. "If he comes anywhere near you, he's got me to deal with!" I said. "I have to go to the gym now. Coming?" She shook her head and kissed me one last time. "I love you," She said. "I love you too," I grinned. I jogged off on cloud nine.
I sat on the bench staring into space, tracing the cuts underneath my sweat bands. I didn't cry. I didn't move. I sat there, stroking my wrist until I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up cautiously. It was a tanned boy with brown hair, well built, with a suitcase. "Can you tell me where - Street is?" I nodded, and gave him directions. "You live around here?" He asked. Again, I nodded. "Whereabouts?" "Around." I muttered. I hoped he wasn't living near me. He was getting on my nerves. "Cool," He said. "See you around," And he ran out of the park gates. I swore under my breath and climbed up a tree so nobody could see what I was about to do.
I arrived home to see mum at the table sipping coffee. "Your dad's gone to work, pet." She said. I nodded and sipped the coffee she'd made for me. I got a text. Apparently, there was an annoying boy at the park asking for seventeenth. Like I said, according to Marissa. And Jake had gone to the gym. That left me, and her. But she was probably going to crawl back to him, so I decided to do what I do best. Swim. I collected my stuff together and sidled to the leisure center, steering clear of the gym. "One child to swim, please." I muttered from behind my fringe. "2 pounds, please!" Said the woman. The voice sounded familiar. I looked up, to see my ex's ex! "Oh my gawd..." I mumbled. "Millie! I didn't recognize you, behind that fringe. It suits you!" She chirruped. I smiled, and dashed to the changing rooms. It was my day off the café, my summer job. Marissa worked at the local Claire's, and Jake worked at a fast food restaurant. I changed into my swimming costume and to my horror, it was too small! I could only just squeeze into it. I moaned. I'd have to persuade Freya to stop giving me free food from Wonderland.
I emerged from the gym and looked around. The streets were heaving. It was Sunday. I decided to get Marissa something, I had to be the best boyfriend I could be. There were lots of other contenders. I went into an expensive jewelry shop, with 30 pounds to spend. I came out with a rose quartz pendant in the shape of a heart on a length of silver chain. It was perfect, but I had to dig into my building society. Ouch. I texted Marissa to meet me in Wonderland before bagging us a seat by the window. I ordered myself a chocolate milkshake and her a smoothie. "Anyone sitting here?" I looked up. There she was, as pretty as an angel. Blonde hair and a killer smile. "N-Not at the moment," I stuttered. "Oh, okay. I'll wait with you until he arrives," She smiled again. "She," I corrected. She just laughed. God she was hot. "So, goofy," Ouch. "What's your name?" "Jake" I replied. "Cool," She replied. "I'm moving onto High Street," She said. Wow, I used to live there! "I live on - street," I replied. "Wanna go out for a coffee or something sometime? Or the movies...?" I frowned to myself. Could I control myself? Probably not..."Sure. Tomorrow okay?" Shut up Jake. "It's a date!" She giggled. Crap.
I arrived at the door and walked in quietly and looked over at Jake. He was with a girl and they kept grinning at each other, "It's a date!" Said the girl. Oh God. Oh my God. Jake looked over at me. I screamed and ran outside, then ran, dodging happy shoppers as I went. My phone started buzzing, but I didn't want an explanation. We were finished. He's been ogling other girls all week. Pervy creep. I ran inside and called for my mum. Good. She wasn't there. I started crying and ran in to the bathroom. A whole new collection of cuts appeared beneath the sweatbands.
