What Not To Do When Creating A Website
Don't want to create websites that drives visitors away? Learn some tips for improving the usability of your website.
When most marketers first start creating a website, they try to fill it up with as many bells and whistles. If you have skills in creating quality Flash presentations, you may want to use it, but the problem is some people have begun using it so much that it affects the web user’s experience.
Even on a really fast Internet connection, a Flash presentation on the landing page really irritates a lot of people nowadays! If you have the option of skipping the presentation, then that’s not so bad. But when you don’t have it, that’s when it becomes a pain. Most people just aren’t impressed by these gimmicks anymore, and will leave the site, hence you end up losing a potential customer.
Another thing you want to avoid is to clutter your webpage with a host of ads and banners. Having too many ads can frustrate visitors, if not confusing them. Keep the choices on your site to a minimum, unless you are major portal with a brand name like Yahoo. It’s also important not to overload your site with too many pictures. Not only does your website take longer to load, but it can also become a sore sight.
The last thing you do not want to do is to have audio that plays almost immediately when the visitor enters your site. The visitor should have the option whether he wants to play the audio or not. Who knows, some of your visitors may be surfing in the middle in the night and had unwittingly left their speakers on. I know, because I’ve been there!
