What Makes Anime and RPGs Addictive?
Discover the common factor between anime, manga, and role-playing games and what makes people crave for more.
What does Anime and RPGs have in common? It's called character development. It's one major reason why these two can get they're audiences (gamers for RPGs) wanting for more. Character development is the gradual increase in the ability of an anime or RPG character.
Character development often plays role in fighting and sport anime series. The most common way to do this is to hold some kind of tournament. In tournament, the fight is scheduled and not simultaneous. Therefore, the characters have time to train and improve their skill levels. Most of the popular martial arts action anime series, like Dragon Ball Z, YuYu Hakusho, and Naruto have this. This is also true for sports anime like Slam Dunk and Hajime No Ippo. Since every game is scheduled, the main characters have time to study new techniques.
In RPGs (stands for Role Playing Games), character development is also present and probably it is the one thing that gamers are craving for. In the game, you start with just one or two weapons, and as you go on with the game, you gather more weapons and keep it in your inventory. Also, your character increases his strength, speed, other attributes, and learn new techniques. Some good examples of RPGs are Diablo, Nox, and Ragnarok. New games like Warcraft Frozen Throne, eventhough they are not RPGs in nature, are applying character development.
It is evident that more anime series that exhibit character growth become popular compared to the number of anime series that don't. RPGs are the hottest form of computer game right now so probably we can say that character growth or development is the secret weapon of successful game and anime titles.
