What Is Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia is one of the recognized anxiety disorders. With therapy and hard work, you can overcome it and live life once again.
"What is agoraphobia?", a question I have been asked many times. Unless you have agoraphobia or know someone who does, it can be very difficult to understand the power it can hold over someone.

Agoraphobia is one of the many anxiety disorders. Only a qualified medical professional can make a diagnosis. Very often, it is preceded by panic attacks.

Description Of Agoraphobia

Generally, when someone suffers from panic attacks, especially in specific situations, they end up avoiding these situations. The situations begin to grow. Very soon, you avoid almost everything.

Agoraphobia is an irrational fear, but the fear, thoughts and feelings associated with it are all too real. It is the fear of getting a panic attack that is the problem. This has now become a panic disorder with agoraphobia.

With agoraphobia and the fear of a panic attack, the need to escape becomes incredibly important. As anxiety builds up, the agoraphobic person looks for ways to escape.

An agoraphobic person may develop a safe zone. Anything past it can cause anxiety, but not necessarily a panic attack. To get round this problem, they need to be accompanied by a trusted companion.

Treatment

Gradual exposure therapy, medication and cognitive behavioral therapy are very effective for agoraphobia. The idea is to do the things that causes fear and anxiety.

This allows for desensitization. Eventually, the fears get less and less. The agoraphobic person can now slowly undo all the negative aspects and begin to increase tasks, thereby making huge improvements.

With work, they can begin to start living again and start feeling like they used to. The key is to eliminate the fear of the panic attack in situations that may have triggered it in the past.

There are now some very effective and affordable treatments available online that have been used by thousands of people successfully. There is no reason to suffer silently from panic and agoraphobia. Get the help you deserve and feel happiness again.

Next time, when someone asks you what is agoraphobia, you can tell them it is something that put its tail between its legs and ran off!
