What is a Superfood?

Superfoods have got much publicity of late after Oprah claimed that the number one superfood, acai berry, was responsible for her weight loss. Find out what exactly a superfood is.
A superfood is defined as any type of food that is high in phytochemicals. Phytochemicals are chemicals that are responsible for fighting diseases such as cancer. Without these phytochemicals, our bodies are much more susceptible to health problems. Not only do these foods usually taste great, but they are really good for you.

Superfoods are usually found in fruits and vegetables. Just about any type of green vegetable is some form of superfood as long as many fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. For example, tomatoes are very high in something called lycopene which can reduce the risk of prostate cancer and mental alertness. Each type of superfood contains another type of phytochemical that can do wonders for your body.

The big time superfood that received all the publicity from Oprah is something called acai berry. Acai berry is a superfood just like any other, but it is by far the most potent superfood. It contains just about every single phytochemical that we know of, along with abilities to burn fat. Not one other superfood is this strong, which makes acai berry very popular and hard to attain, especially after the publicity on Oprah.

Acai berry is found in the Brazilian Amazon Rain Forest. You can only harvest the berry twice a year, which makes it a very important crucial time. We only started to harvest this berry about 5 years ago, and it is now one of the highest sold fruits in the United States. You can find acai berry in a juice or capsule form. The capsule form is not becoming more popular because the effects are stronger and the juice can be very sour.

In conclusion, superfoods are very important and you probably eat many of them without even knowing it. Acai berry is the strongest of these superfoods, and you most likely have never even heard of it. Know more about acai berry.
