Refrigerators have come a long way since the original "ice box" which was nothing more than an insulated container where you put a block of ice in to keep things cold. The small units are convenient in that they can be placed almost anywhere. They also tend to be more energy efficient than some of the larger models because there is less physical room to let the cold out and this results in a lower electric bill.

A mini portable refrigerator is not designed to replace the larger units but are more designed as an enhancement to the larger ones. Most people that buy the smaller mini fridges tend to use them in basement bars, in a den or the basement recreation room where they can keep beverages of choice there and not have to constantly run to the kitchen for a cold drink. They do an awesome job in this capacity and for the price they are well worth owning for this use.
