What I Learned From Pete The Crow
Can animals sometimes be kinder than humans??? I think so. Take the Poll.
When I was just a tweedle dee kid
I didn’t have many friends
It didn’t matter much what I did
‘Cause I didn’t follow the trends
Other kids would laugh and say
"Look, there goes little weird Joe
He’s got no friends no way
He just hangs around with a crow"
No real friends? Are you kidding me?
I had a friend wherever I’d go!
There was no truer friend, don’t you see?
Who cares if he was only a crow?
He was sleek and jet black and shiny
An amazing winged athlete
He was never petty or whiny
But, he would only answer to "Pete"
Pete’s mama died with a tumor
I don’t know if he had other folks
I do know that he understood humor
‘Cause he’d caw and cackle at my jokes
When I was sick or down in the dumps
Pete would sit beside me and whistle
He knew if I had the blues or the mumps
He’d tell me stories like he was reading an epistle
Three clever animals can use tools
The elephant the chimp and the crow
Pete made the other two look like fools
In math class, he always sat on the front row
The teacher would ask us a question
And Pete would jump up and down with glee
He would squawk and cause such a commotion
Because Pete knew all the right answers, you see
Whenever being an outcast
Would near get the best of me
I knew Pete’s kindness would outlast
All of that childish tweedle dee impropriety
Pete could tell at a glance
If a person’s heart was dark or bright
So bad people were taking a big chance
When Pete decided to keep them in sight
First he’d scold and warn them
He’d dive bomb with all of his might
He’d make the bad guys fear his mayhem
And he’d chase them away screaming in fright
From Pete I learned to be fearless
I learned what a good friend should be
To me, Pete will always be peerless
Whether in or out of his tree
The day Pete died I spent trying
To figure out why he was gone
I finally ended up just crying
Conceding that his mission was done
Yes, I was a scary tweedle dee kid
My life has been kind of a mess
But if I can become a friend like Pete did
I’ll consider my life a success
I didn’t have many friends
It didn’t matter much what I did
‘Cause I didn’t follow the trends
