What happened to "Music Television"?

What happened to the actual music on MTV and VH1? Now I find that there are mostly reality shows on both channel, most of the day. What is that about?
I remember the days when I could turn to VH1 and watch "Pop UP Video" or I mean, I used to be able to watch music videos all day long on either channel . There may have been a few news breaks or a couple interviews with some actual musicians; but not now. Now when I turn to MTV at 11:35 at night there is a reality show on, and when I check the tv schedule there are going to be back to back reality shows until 5am. That's when the music videos start, but they are only on until 8am. It's pretty much the same story with VH1, except their videos are on from 2 to 10am.

So, tell me why do I have to be awake in the early hours of the morning, to actually see music videos on two channels that are supposed to devoted to music? I just happen to an insomniac, so I am up most of the night anyway, but for people with "normal" sleep schedules, this doesn't really work. The few hours that they are on are the hours that most people are asleep. I personally don't think that that is fair.

I think that both channels have sold out. Most of their shows don't even have anything to do with music. Granted, there is occasionally some good background music; but, the music shouldn't be, just, in the background. There should be more shows like "Head Bangers Ball" and "Yo MTV Raps". I would absolutely love for "Pop Up Video" to come back. If they don't want to represent the music anymore. Fine, then sell the networks to someone else who will.

Do you think that...
I am just over reactiing and should just enjoy the reality shows.
both channels should just re-dedicate themselves to the music.
none of it really matters.
they should try to find a "happy medium".
both channels have the right to change their type of programing if they want..
