What Causes Snoring in Women
Many women face the problem of snoring while sleeping. Snoring is not only irritating to your partner, it can also get embarrassing at times, isn't it? There are many causes of snoring in both men and women. The following article will tell you what causes snoring in women and what you can do about it.

6 Reasons That Might Make You Snore
Overeating
If you eat just before you sleep, the food that is not yet digested, puts pressure on your diaphragm. Since food does not get digested properly, it gets converted to fat. This fat adds to the body weight. If this fat is developed around your neck, it puts pressure on your throat and eventually on the air passages in your throat. The best advised snoring treatment here would be to have your meal at least 3 hours before you sleep. Another way of looking at this is overeating and not exercising. This will again increase the fat and lead to the same problems of pressure on the throat. This pressure leads to interrupted air flow which in turn leads to snoring.
Alcohol
Alcohol is a contributor to snoring in more ways than one. It not only helps in the easy collapsing of throat flaps but also adds to a person's weight. We all know that alcohol doesn't take time to absorb itself in our bloodstream and slows down our responses. This slowing of responses adds to the collapsing of throat flaps mentioned before which is one of the causes of snoring. Alcohol is also, to some extent, responsible for nasal congestion and irritation. If alcohol is properly metabolized, its effects reduce considerably. So don't consume alcohol 3 - 4 hours before you sleep.
Smoking
Smoking is another cause that leads to snoring in women. It also causes nasal irritation and congestion. The smoke might even cause catarrh and swelling. All this leads to congestion which in turn leads to disturbed airflow. It is also said that the more you smoke, the more likely you are to snore. Even passive smoking leads to the above mentioned conditions and snoring as well.
Sleeping Position
Incorrect sleeping posture is another cause of snoring in women. Therefore, it is advisable for women who snore not to sleep on their back because the tongue and the soft palate falls back into the throat. This hampers the proper passage of air. So it's best to change your sleeping position and sleep sideways. This is one of the best ways to stop snoring naturally.
Allergies
Certain allergies can also lead to snoring. Yes, there are allergies that cause nasal congestion and eventually leads to snoring. Some problems arising out of these allergies are rhinorrhoea, post nasal drip, nasal congestion, sneezing and itching. Basically, nasal hypersensitivity leads to respiratory allergies. This causes swelling of the throat and nose which hampers proper breathing. The condition of the nasal airway that is affected due to this allergy is said to worsen at night.
Improper Breathing
Poor posture, muscle pressure especially in the throat, neck, and chest, allergies, can cause improper breathing. Improper breathing is when one breathes in through the mouth. This happens because of obstruction of the nasal passages, which causes instable flow of air in the throat. The soft tissue is the one that is most affected when you breathe through your mouth. Breathing through the mouth leads to snoring because the air flow through the mouth causes the tissues to vibrate.
Now that you know what causes snoring in women, you can perhaps find out what it is that makes you snore at night. As I have mentioned before, snoring can be cured by overcoming the problems mentioned above. There are nasal strips and medications available that help to cure this problem. However, resort to them only after you have consulted your doctor. So get rid of your snoring problem as soon as possible, and have a good night's sleep.
