What causes God’s curses?(2)
Disobedience, greed, half-hearted obedience, misusing God’s Name all these sins bring along God’s curse. See more.
Hebrews words for the verb "to curse" are "arar, qualal, quabab".
"Arar" means "to curse thoroughly and properly in a premeditated manner with intention of bringing about great harm"
Qualal means "to revile or vilify in a casual way, to esteem lightly, to make a contemptuous comment to slight". It is a hasty reaction.
Quabab means "to pierce or bore through with a hole, to execrate, to stab with words".
The Arabic kebab derives from "quabab" it has come to be the word used to show the practice of sticking a pin into the effigy of a person to hurt him by an accident illness disaster or even death, is a common demonic exercise.
God will "arar"(curse) those who "qualal" Abram.
False religions, reveal another principle that brings God’s curse. (Deuteronomy 27:15-26)
"Cursed is the man who carves an image or casts an idol—a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of the craftsman's hands—and sets it up in secret."
The initial purpose we were created with was to worship Yahweh, but when we turned away and worshiped false gods, or we got involved in false religions or occultism the curse of God fulfilled and we got under His curse in a premeditated manner. Nevertheless when we contemplate and visit an astrologer in searching for our future, we call up the curse of God.
"Cursed is the man who dishonors his father or his mother." Here is used the "qualal" word. To honor our parents is very important for our heavenly Father it was punished with death in the Old Testament."Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death" (Exodus21:17)
"If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head. (Leviticus 20:9)
Here it is strengthening the same idea about honoring our parents, is a serious matter: "If a man curses his father or mother, his lamp will be snuffed out in pitch darkness" (Proverbs 20:20).
Even the book of wisdom tells us about how carefully we should be with the words that comes out from our mouth toward our parents.
The Old Testament half-hearted obedience is pointed out in the New Testament.
"A curse on him who is lax in doing the Lord's work! His curse is upon those characterized by neglect and undue lack of concern in doing God’s work. (Jeremiah 48:10)
"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth". (Revelation 3:15,16)
God detests those who are lukewarm far more than those who are ice-cold towards Him.
Greed is another cause that brings God’s curse upon us. "With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood!" (2 Peter 2:14) This suggests that greed is the most detestable attribute of all the lists that characterize a false teacher. Greed is the one lesson they have learned with their minds, they are under a curse.
The Old Testament distinctions between different types of curses were not continued in the New Testament but here the word "arar", the strongest type of curse is used.
Another biblical reason for God cursing a person is misuse of his Holy name. "For they have done outrageous things in Israel; they have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives and in my name have spoken lies, which I did not tell them to do. I know it and am a witness to it," declares the LORD". (Jeremiah 29:23) Jeremiah states that all who dare or presume to speak in the Name of God without any direct command from Him are cursed.
"And now this admonition is for you, O priests. If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor My name," says the LORD Almighty, "I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings" (Malachi 2:1, 2) It is pointing to those priest who do not proclaim God’s glory.
This is a real warning to Christian priests who indulge in false teachings.
We have to take a better look into our lives to see where and how we dishonored God if we did. Let’s set our heart to honor our LORD Almighty and inherit his blessings and not get under His curse.
