What Are We Thinking? Part 1
Yes, what are we thinking with our 24/7/365 obsession with the Net? I think that we are going to pay a heavy price in the future both mentally and physically and we are seeing this already.
I truly believe we need to rethink our 24/7/365 involvement in the world of the Net!
Yes, I am writing this as an article which is on the Net; however if I wanted to reach as many people that could potentially read this I would be paying Office Depot and the US Post Office for the next 100 years!
However I do truly believe that we may be heading to a VERY serious situation in the future in regards to our OBSESSION with the Net through blogging, chatting, Twittering, IMing, etc.
And I'm not the only one that believes this according to article in Wired (see below).
Are we truly "frying our brain" as this article says?
I not only think that we are frying our brain but what about the damage we may be doing to our eyes with this constant use of these screens. I plan to find statistics of the increase in cataract surgery and other eye related problems. I bet you will see a significant rise in these surgeries since we have become obsessed with the Net!
Not to mention carpal tundral syndrome from the way we use our fingers to constantly be typing on these keyboards. Also we increase the chances of arthritis substantially by the years of typing away on keyboards.
The ophthalmologists, arthritis and carpal tundral syndrome experts are going to be making a killing over the next decade. If you have a kid that wants to be a physician or even a physical therapist he/she should look into these fields!
What about OBESITY? Are we not contributing to the increase in this epidemic especially among kids that sit for hours before a computer screen not only in school but at home playing video games and even doing their homework?
Do kids ever get out and play physical games today? I would bet a heck of a lot less than when I was going to school in the 50s and 60s!
And in their infinite wisdom the schools have cut back or completely done away with PE classes!
What are we thinking?
Here is one of my biggest concerns of the Net – it is not allowing us to be as creative as before.
How can one be creative when he/she has every thing presented to them on any subject you can imagine? Today instead of exploring on their own kids and adults (me included) turn to the Net for their answers! When we need to do a paper on a subject for school or work we don't spend time looking in an encyclopedia or going to the library to do our research. We just put in a couple of keywords and then find material that has been written in articles, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Digg, etc. and then use inexpensive or free software applications that can take this material and with a few keystrokes change it so that it is now original enough to hand in to the teacher or the boss.
You have not heard of this type software? Must not be an Internet Marketing disciple. You see there are loads of sites that offer what are called Private Label Rights or PLR on every subject from A to Z. I have loads of these PLR products in my computer which allows me to either use it as it is or change it around and then put my name on it and resell it to others! This is BIG business and don't think the kids of today have not figured out how to use this PLR material to write their school papers.
So by doing this am I learning any thing? Not really. All I'm learning to do is short cut the process of research and creativity to make a buck, get a grade or impress a boss!
Also the Internet Marketing world encourages "ghost writing" of your articles by people overseas in India and the Philippines where these people are paid $5 or less per hour to do the research for the material and then write it as new PLR products for sale.
Do you not think that kids will soon start having their papers "ghost written"? You bet they will!
So how creative do you have to be today? Not very!
So we have kids that are getting obese and also becoming less creative. GREAT combination for the downfall of America!
So what are we thinking?
Unfortunately it is another example of rushing to create what was suppose to be a new way to interact with the world and have new experiences that we did not look at the consequences further down the road!
Next article I will have the research about the increase in eye related problems along with arthritis and carpal tundral syndrome.
Yes, I used the COMPUTER Spell Checker instead of my printed dictionary.
