What are the Three Differences In Lighting Available?

Let's discuss the benefits and features of the many lighting choices available for your home.
When looking for lighting of your home, there comes a time when you start to wonder what other alternatives there are to the regular incandescent light bulbs. Most of us have heard of florescent lighting for our homes, and a few others have heard that halogen lighting is the way to go. Let's discuss the benefits and features of each lighting choice available.

First, let us begin with the type of lighting we all know: incandescent. Incandescent light bulbs are the most common light bulbs by far, and are overall the least expensive of the three. However, as we all also have come to know, the price of the bulb is not the only cost.

The amount of electricity used is also a large factor when shopping for bulbs. Incandescent lighting has been found to be generally more expensive when compared to the other two alternatives in energy efficiency. The tip to remember when buying incandescent bulbs for your home is to buy lower wattage when possible to save more on your electric bill.

Finally, incandescent bulbs may be what we are used to in most of our homes, but over time we have come to see that they do not produce 'true light'. That is, instead of a white light, like that found in nature, it produces a yellow hue. This can and has lead to paint and other decorative items not looking the same indoors and out, or even day versus night. Understanding this phenomenon can save you heartaches in the long run!

Second, we have florescent lighting. Florescent bulbs are becoming much more popular nowadays, especially with the growing need to conserve our energy. Although they are not the cheapest bulbs to buy, when it comes to energy efficiency, florescent bulbs are found to be some of the best for your invested dollars.

However, florescent bulbs also have their own hue that must be understood. One way to think of this is to imagine your office or hospital. Notice how the lights make the room(s) appear slightly cooler. Take special note how a white wall can appear to have a snow-like quality. The reason for this is because florescent bulbs cast a blue hue into their area, which once more must be taken into consideration when buying paint, wallpaper and other decorative items for your home and office.

Finally, we come to a lighting alternative that has been around for a short while and continues to improve with it's age and technology. Halogen lighting is considered the most expensive to purchase, but it's energy rating is often less than incandescent and at times comparable to florescent. Halogen bulbs also cast a pure, white light into the room. This is a huge reason why many vehicle owners are switching their headlights to halogen bulbs – the road is much easier to see as it is in daylight, and thus makes driving safer.

The only true downside is that halogen lighting is not meant to fill a room with light by just one bulb. Instead, they work better as spotlighting and for filling an area of a room. There are many halogen lighting options available, and we encourage you to explore these options.
