What are the Omega 3 Benefits ?

Find out about the important benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids and why you need to include them in your daily eating regimen for better health.
No other nutrients seem to provide the wide range of benefits and protection to the body as the Omega-3 benefits. These polyunsaturated essential fatty acids cannot be manufactured by the body and so must be supplied to the body through diet. These fatty acids play a crucial role in building healthy cells which, of course, builds a healthier body. Cell chemistry can be negatively impacted by cell membranes that fail to form normally, causing various bodily organs to malfunction. A diet rich in Omega 3 fatty acids may bring relief from painful inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis without the side effects of drugs. They also assist in regulating processes such as blood clotting, blood pressure, inflammatory as well as allergic response, and nerve transmission by facilitating the production of hormone-like chemicals called prostaglandins.

One of the important Omega 3 benefits is a greater likelihood of cardiovascular disease prevention. This is due to their ability to reduce the levels of LDL, or bad cholesterol, along with lowering the triglycerides in the blood and even reduce blood pressure. It also raises HDL (good cholesterol) and inhibits harmful blood clots. Omega 3 fatty acids benefit the body by helping maintain stable blood insulin levels, and by reducing the threat of diabetes and obesity. Known to boost brain activity, Omega 3 fatty acids can help enhance memory, concentration and intelligence. It has been observed that they are useful in dealing with mental illnesses like depression, psychosis, ADHD, dyslexia, Alzheimer's disease, etc.

Omega 3 reduces your risk to commonly occurring cancers like prostate cancer, breast cancer and colon cancer, thereby promoting healthy cell walls and providing protection against undesired mutations in the DNA that may trigger the growth of cancerous cells. Your resistance to cold and other allergic reactions will increase when you get enough Omega 3 fatty acids because they also boost the immune system.

Since there are so many Omega 3 benefits, it's important to be sure you get enough in your diet. As healthier breakfast cereals continue to appear in large chain markets note many contain puffed flaxseeds along with seeds like walnuts and almonds - all three are major sources of omega-3 fatty acids (and just a tad tastier than tofu). Omega-3 fatty acid supplements also have value but should not be taken without consulting your doctor if blood-thinning medicine has been prescribed for you.
