Tarot cards are used as a tool of fortune telling, self-improvement, problem-solving as well as playing the card games. A tarot deck consists of a set of 78 cards. A standard tarot includes a set of 22 cards, called the major arcana or trumps. Another set of 14 cards of four suits is known as minor arcana or pip cards. It is very interesting to know about the types and meaning of tarot cards . Here are the names of some major arcana:
  • The Magician: In upright position, it indicates creativity, originality, willpower, skill, self-confidence and in reverse, it represents insecurity, weakness in will, hesitation, etc.
  • The Fool: In upright, it reads new adventures, new beginnings, unlimited possibilities, passion, pleasure, etc, while in reverse it predicts a bad decision, apathy and a faulty choice.
  • The Emperor: In upright, it reads confidence, stability, leadership, wealth, accomplishment, father/brother/husband. When read reverse, it represents indecision, petty emotions and immaturity.
  • The Empress: In upright position, it predicts development, accomplishment, action, mother/sister/wife and in reverse position, it indicates anxiety disorders, lack of concentration and infidelity.
  • The High Priestess: When read upright, it indicates knowledge, intuition, virtue and wisdom and in reverse, it reads as lack of understanding, shallowness and ignorance.
  • The Lovers: In upright position, it indicates love, trust, a beginning of romance and a healthy relationship. In reverse, it indicates separation, unreliability and frustration in love.
  • Strength: In upright, it predicts courage, strength, determination and energy. In reverse, it represents pettiness, weakness and abuse of power.
  • The Hierophant: In upright position, it predicts a need to confirm, kindness, mercy, forgiveness and a sense of historical importance. In reverse, it represents unconventionality, impotence and foolish generosity.
  • The Chariot: In upright, it indicates a rushed decision, perseverance and a journey. It indicates defeat, unsuccessful endeavors and affairs in reverse position.
  • The Wheel of Fortune: When read upright, it indicates fortune, destiny, a special gain and unexpected events and in reverse position, it represents bad luck, bad fate, failure and interruption.
Some other arcana cards are The Hermit, Justice, Death, The Hanged Man, The Devil, The Star, Temperance, The Tower, The Sun, The Moon, The World and Judgment or Rejuvenation.
