What are Employers searching for?

You already know that in getting a job technical skills are important but sometimes it so happens that personality traits make the difference. One of the most valued personal qualities is responsibility; prove yourself to be responsible and be careful with the early indicators of your professionalism.
What is it that employers search in a potential employee? Other than technical capabilities, the employers want teams formed from professionals and individuals worthy of confidence. This may not even be a surprise for you, taking into account the fact that many people already write this on their resumes. But what exactly is a professional?

The central quality of a professional is reliability. Why? Well, it is good sense really - no matter how good you are at your work, if you are not guaranteed to finish it, and sometimes, more important, finish it in a certain time frame, you could say that you are wasting your resources.

But you could think that this kind of behavior will be obvious only after you obtain the job and, if this is the case, here are some indicators that are visible even from the early stages of the hiring process: making applications for offers you are obviously not compatible with; not paying attention to all of the elements in the ad; confirming your participation and not presenting for the interview; if something completely unexpected occurs, the good thing to make is to inform the employer as soon as possible that you will not be able to make it and it is probable that you can agree on another time for the interview; negotiating aspects which were well stipulated in the initial offer; applying for jobs you really do not want for reasons such as checking your "value on the market"; arriving late for the interview; and so on.

If you tend to act as described above or in similar manners you should know that the only chance you have is if your competition is very little and under-qualified; and nevertheless you could not be hired for a long time. But regarding a very serious and good paid position things are quite different - no employer will seek to waste time or the money on people he cannot count on, for the simple fact that there are many others who could do the job and could better conform to the conditions; further more, if a managers considers that responsible people are very rare in his field, even if he finds someone not 100% qualified he might be willing to invest in training - technical knowledge is much easier to enrich than polishing someone’s personality.

Naturally, there are some who think that work itself could change the individual and make him/her more responsible. But what if you cannot get a job for this very reason?

Keep in mind that in order to get a good position with a decent pay you have to respect your employer, your clients, your tasks and yourself. Your attitude makes the difference!
