The West Highland White Terriers are great to have as pets as they are always brimming with enthusiasm. Here’s a detailed look at the behavior patterns and factors associated with this breed.
West Highland White Terrier
When he looked at me with his deep set eyes and started running towards me in great joy and excitement, I could barely control my feelings as well. Meeting him after a long period changed nothing between us, he was as loyal and loving as ever! I really cherished this relationship where love only seemed to grow with every passing moment. I am talking about this cute, little, furry bundle of joy I encountered one fine summers day; Snowy. Snowy is a cute West Highland White Terrier who lives only a block away!

Description of the West Highland White Terrier:
These cute and cuddly dogs are white in color and have a soft and dense undercoat. They are also known as Westies. This dog has powerful hindquarters on its muscular legs. On an average, the height of the West Highland White Terrier for the males is around 11 inches at the withers. Withers are the area, which is the highest point on its back located on a ridge between its shoulder blades. The females are around 10 inches in height. The head has small ears, which have sharp points. These are generally erect. The head has a round shape at the front side with a closely fitted jaw. The muzzle is blunt with a large and black nose. It is noticed that the teeth seem large if compared to the entire proportion of the body. These dogs have a large bone structure. What I love about them is the piercing look they have in their eyes and the soft, wet nose! This is what gives them the really adorable look! Their tail is on the shorter side, which has a length of around 5-6 inches. The weight of a West Highland White Terrier is around 15-22 pounds.

Behavior Pattern of the West Highland White Terrier:
These cute and adorable doggies are energetic and fun to have around you. They will keep you on your toes with their mischievous behavior. Such breeds of dogs require loads of attention from you and your companionship as well. This dog would expect you to play with him a lot. This intelligent doggie may be a little obstinate at times. Overall, these white terriers make really good family pets.

What kind of an atmosphere is suitable for a West Highland White Terrier?
These dogs have loads of energy as mentioned before and being family pets, it would be better if you have your own backyard where the dog can have a good time running around the garden. To keep your Westie happy, you need to ensure you take it out for plenty of walks and have time to play games as well! Always ensure you have interactive games with your dog, this is something most dogs would love and it would also prove to be a good form of exercise for the dog.

Grooming Tips for the West Highland White Terrier:
Grooming your pet is one of the most important factors when you are planning to have a pet at home. When it comes to the ever-energetic Westie, you would need to begin the grooming care as soon as possible. Always brush your doggie to keep his fur clean and free from all sorts of tangles. You will to buy some brushes, combs, a special flea comb and also a pair of scissors. Always keep the hair length trimmed around the eyes and the ears. Hair, which grows around the feet, should also be trimmed. The tail would also require trimming so that the original shape is retained. A dog bath would be necessary at regular intervals.

Nutrition required for the West Highland White Terrier:
Even if your Westie stares at you lovingly when it is time for food, do not ever give more than what is required. This is a small dog so give it small portions of dry food every day, which should give the dog the adequate nutrition. Include protein in the diet for a healthy skin and a thick coat.

West Highland White Terriers are not different from any other dogs; they need all your love and care! Of course, they are bound to suitably reward you with a warm lick as well.
