Welcome To Cambodia...!

The article under the title "Welcome to Cambodia…!" deals with about Kampuchea or Cambodia, one of the most beautiful and exotic countries in the entire world. I always remember when I was a child and my teacher told us about Cambodia…
Welcome To Cambodia...!
INTRODUCTION:
From my perspective I think that Cambodia, a Buddhist country, is a wonderful place in the World. Kampuchea is indescribable beauty… gastronomy… famous for its hospitality…is a country of ancient culture, history and traditions… totally different from other nations around the world. Cambodia was a French Colony and has a population of 12 million people. Khmer is the official language.

CAMBODIA IS THE HOME…Haing S. Ngor (actor), who won an Oscar for his supporting role as Dith Prath in "The Killing Fields" (1984), a film about the genocide in Cambodia. Today his name is famous all over the world. He was the first actor from Asia to win the award in the 57-years history of the Oscar.

FAMOUS WOMEN…Princess Monique…Princess Norodom Marie Ranariddh…Princess Lyda Sisowath….Khieu Phonnary, ex-First Lady of Cambodia…Queen Kossmak Nearireath….Mam Somaly, who is a women’s rights activist.

SPORTS AND GENOCIDE…Cambodia’s Olympic history has been limited to participation in the Summer Olympic Games, World Championships, Asian Games and other international competitions. From 1975 to 1995, Cambodia did not compete in five Olympic Games (Montreal-76, Moscow-80, Los Angeles-84, Seoul-88 and Barcelona-92).Under the dictatorship of Pol Pot, many athletes were died in concentration camps. The sport was forbidden by Khmer Rouges…

DID YOU KNOW THAT…Cambodia is the home to Angkor What, the capital city of Khmer Empire (from 9th Century to 13th Century). Like Machu Picchu (Peru), Pascua Island (Chile) and the Pyramids of Egypt, the Temple Angkor What is one of the most important wonders in the world. I think, that now it’s practically impossible to talk about Kampuchea without mentioning Angkor What. This Cambodian wonder has been declared as heritage for humanity by UNESCO. Kampuchea’s greatest tourist attraction is the Cambodian Temple. Since 1945, the Temple of Angkor What has appeared on Cambodia’s flag.

DID YOU KNOW THAT…the real fascination of Cambodia is in its traditional culture. Cambodia has one of the World’s most oldest civilizations: Khmer Empire…Like Thailand, Hawaii and Kenya, Cambodia is very famous for its traditional Khmer dancing. There are 4,000 positions to learn…Under the dictatorship of Pol Pot, the worse dictator and genocide in the modern history, the Khmer dancing was forbidden and penalty was death. Between 1975 and 1979, many dancers were killed by Angka Loeu.

FILMS ABOUT CAMBODIA…The Killing Fields, a film about Cambodian genocide by Khmer Rouges, a terrorist group in the 1970s and 1980s.Certainly, dramatic British film based on the experiences of two reports during the Maoist Dictatorship of Pol Pot. In 1976, Sydney Schamberg, reporter of The New York Times Magazine, won a Pulitzer Award for his international reporting.

DID YOU KNOW THAT…Many of Cambodia’s stories are about Pol Pot, one of World’s greatest terrorists…Khmer Rouges has been compared to Shining Path, one of the worst terrorists groups in the Third World. More than 50,000 Peruvians has been killed by Shining Path. Currenlty, Abimael Guzman Reynoso, Shining Path’s leader, is compared to Pol Pot…
