Weight Watchers Food Points and Point System
The weight watchers point system is based on a formula that includes calorie, fat and fiber content and results in a number between 1 to 10. The member is allowed a certain number of weight watchers food points both daily and weekly based upon their starting weight. There are those however, who don’t like diets that make you count calories and make dieting so complex like the weight watchers points system.
As with most programs there are pros and cons to the system and some really like it and find it effective while others do not like it. However, most don’t lose much more than ten pounds in two years. For some, who aren’t obese, this is fine. However if you are needed to lose more than ten pounds, then there are probably better methods. There are meetings and it is very structured, which some find really motivating while others do not like.
Pros of Weight Watchers Point System
There are several good points about weight watchers. Some of these are: since all foods are allowed dieters don’t feel hunger pains and some feel that they are able to eat more while on this diet. With the weight watchers food points it is easy to determine how much of what foods are allowed. This is especially easy with the Weight Watchers food put out by its parent company HJ Heinz, with the points clearly marked on each package.
The weight watchers points system helps the dieter to learn how much of what foods to eat, in addition it shows people how to be aware of serving size and to lose or maintain weight based upon how much they eat rather than avoiding all sugars, or carbohydrates as other diets do. While most don’t lose much weight there are always exceptions and there are people who would not do any other diet.
The plan is flexible in many ways. You can save up points for later in the week to use at a dinner or outing, you can choose to attend the weekly meeting in you city or do an individualized plan using the online resources alone. If you are able to get down to within a couple pounds of your goal weight and maintain it for six weeks, you are then given a lifetime membership as long as you continue to maintain your goal weight.
The cons of Weight Watchers food system
Even though there are many good things about this program, there are those who really do not like weight watchers point system and other things about the program. There are times when a person needs to use the very complex formula to decide the resulting points. This can be awkward in some situations (even using the provided slide ruler and calculator) and just too complex in others. Some people just do not like structured diet plans and would rather rid themselves of a type of food rather than do all the math it requires to count calories or add up points. There are others who balk at going to expensive weekly meetings that they find boring.
In addition, Weight Watchers relies heavily on seducing the overweight individual into thinking that they are able to eat anything they want without restrictions and still lose a lot of weight. Well, with weight watchers this just isn’t going to happen to the majority of dieters, even though it has happened to some. There is a bit more to losing weight than just adding up daily and weekly points. A person’s dietary needs must be considered.
While it is true that the point system does require a person to look at the calories and fat content in each food, there are also other aspects of food to consider when dieting and each food as a whole should be considered. Another aspect of this program is that it isn’t concerned about the amount of exercise in proportion to the food eaten. So, in this case its program is not very well rounded, even though extra points can be earned by doing some exercise. So, a person must consider these cons when looking into this diet plan.
So, as you can see there are both good points and bad points to the weight watchers point system, for some who need a bit of structure in their life the weight watchers food points can really help. In others, the mere thought of calculating the weight watchers points brings dread and apprehension. This, as will all diets should be considered by the individual and any health professional if necessary.
