Weight Loss Programs for Kids
Obesity is no longer just a problem among adults anymore as it is also rampant among children. So here are some weight loss programs for kids to help them reduce obesity.
And childhood obesity needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Children who are obese will find it harder to lose weight later in life and there are chances of them suffering from problems such as diabetes, heart diseases, stroke and perhaps arthritis at an early age. Hence childhood obesity must be fought with a collaborative effort between the parents and the children. So what all can you do to reduce the weight of your children?
Weight Loss Programs for Kids: How to Fight Childhood Obesity
There are several things you can do to ensure that your child's weight reduces to the average weight of the age group to which the child belongs.
- Acknowledge: In the famous Harry Potter series, Harry's Aunt Petunia always claimed that her son Dudley had big bones. This is called denial of a visible problem. The first step to starting weight loss programs for kids is to understand and acknowledge that there is a problem. If you continue denying the problem and forward ludicrous theories to justify the problem, it is going to help no one. So acknowledge the problem. This will give you the stomach to fight it.
- Exercise: I am purposely putting the point about exercise before diets because I honestly feel that a more immediate problem is the lack of exercise than lack of a balanced diet. Sure, you can reduce the amount of food your child eats, but if the child does not exercise, he/she will still grow fat. And reducing food intake will further reduce your child's energy level. So find sports which your children will enjoy playing. Or at least see that the children walk/cycle when they are running errands.
- Diet: If post exercise, your child's weight does not reduce, then consider preparing a weight loss diet. A weight loss diet time table would ideally reduce the fat and sodium intake and maximize the intake of fiber and protein. A combination of regular exercise and diets will be a good weight loss program for children.
- Weight Loss Camps: Frankly, I feel weight loss camps for kids should come after you have tried exercises and dieting. This is because weight loss camps can be a little rough on the children and it might develop resentment in the children towards parents and camps. So first do your bit to reduce the child's weight. If you are not able to, at least you were able to condition and orient him to the concept of weight loss programs for children and he will be better prepared to survive in these weight loss camps for kids.
- Motivation: Losing weight is a hard job and hence parents have to continuously provide motivation to their children. It is going to be hard for the children to diet, when other people around them are eating fried chicken and ice creams! So parents too should follow the diet plan to egg their children on.
