Website Design and Navigation

Most of the web surfers will only spend 8 seconds on your website before it loads. They would like to figure out your website within these 8 seconds and would go away if they don’t think that the navigation is obvious and will never return.

Too many website designers don’t understand the importance of website navigation when it comes to visitor retention and cheap Web Design. In my opinion Website navigation is one of the most crucial elements in determining the effectiveness of a website design.

To be effective, any cheap web design should have navigation that makes sense to the average surfer. If you look at the website designs that are usable and successful, you will notice that they would have some common aspects when it comes to navigation. Good website designers always place links where they are visible and easily accessible.

A good Website Designer always recognises the basic purpose of the cheap website and the target audience of the cheap website design.

The three click rule is the most important element of your web design. Any website design with more than three clicks is hiding information that 80% of the visitors to the website will struggle to find.

As a website designer, you should always ensure that all the navigational elements are clearly linked together. Make sure that you use standard conventions in your cheap website design.

Even naming of the links has to be seriously thought of. Make sure that in your web design, links clearly inform the visitors of the content they re-present. Don’t use ambiguous names for links in your website design.

Many website designers (sometime because of the insistence of their clients) use splash page or flash movies un-necessarily. Recent developments in the website design standards are moving towards keeping the web design simple yet attractive. Also I find music on a flash banner annoying as it distracts your attention away from reading the information on the website.

These are only a few of many items you have to consider as a website designer when developing a web design.
