Web Design: How it helps your business ?
Recently someone asked me if a website is going to help their business. I was really astonished as the person I was talking to was from a very big organization and yet they didn’t have a website. I asked him if any of these things apply to them or their industry:
a. Do you need new business or do you want to concentrate on your clients?
b. Do people interested in services looking for those services on the web?
c. Do you think that your competitors are increasing their market share?
He answered in affirmative to all three questions above.
His next question to me was what he should be looking at when he develops a new web design?
I have been asked this question many times at various business and social events I visit. In this article, I will concentrate on business skills of a good Website Designer or a website developer. A good website developer will understand your business very well.
There are a few things you should look at when choosing a web designer (or website designer). Some of them are:
2. Business Knowledge
Before you hire a website designer, you should ensure that the person has a good business understanding. A good website developer is not only good technically; they should also understand how your business and industry works. They need to know what image you want to project from your website, what your marketing effort has been in the recent past and where do you want to take your organization in the near future. Your Website Design is going to be your first point of contact for most of your current and future customers. Almost all of your customers will login to your website to research about your products and services and if you believe in first impression is the last impression, a bad website design will harm your business prospects.
3. Ability to understand your customers
An extension of the previous point is that your web designer should have the ability to understand your customers. Only then they will have the ability to create a website design (or web design) that will attract customers from the right group (or demography). For example if your customers are from 18-28 years of age, your website designer should develop a web design that is funky and attractive, while for product targeting baby boomers your web design should be clean with easy navigation. Also in terms of social circumstances, if your target market is working families your website design should project happy families in the design and images you use.
4. Website Design for your product
Your website design should reflect the product you are selling. For different products and services your website will be designed differently. Your website design and images you use on the website should be uniform with the products and services you are selling. Website design for a toy company would be different to an organization selling wines. Make sure your website designer doesn’t come up with one size fits all solution.
