Ways to make Wrist and Hand Corsages

Corsages are beautiful accessories worn mostly by women in special occasions such as proms and weddings. A corsage is a compilation of three or more boutonnieres (floral decoration worn by men). Unlike a boutonniere in which a single flower or a flower bud is employed, a corsage is made up of more than one flower.

Corsages can be of wristlet or pin-on shoulder style. Wristlet is worn mostly in the left wrist, whereas the latter is pinned up with fabric underneath the left shoulder. Sometimes, it can also be pinned up in the left side of the waist. Some brides prefer to wear a wrist corsage instead of carrying a bridal bouquet so that their hands will remain free. It gets along very well with a bride wearing an off-shoulder or a strapless gown.

Ways to make Wrist and Hand Corsages

While creating a wrist corsage, the most important point to keep in mind is the wearer. It should be made in such a style that it complements the person, who will be wearing the corsage. For example, for a junior bridesmaid or a flower girl, it should be a smaller one with flowers like roses and miniature carnations. Hence, flowers of different colors and sizes are selected for different personalities. Let’s see a simple way of creating a rose wrist corsage.

• You need two roses (pink, yellow, red, white), some filler flowers and leaves, floral tape, scissors and a decorative wire or a thick elastic band.
• First, cut the stem of the roses and the fillers at a length of about 2.5-3 inch. Remove leaves and thorns if any.
• Bind the stems of the roses with the floral tape and add fillings on the sides or sparingly between the roses.
• Now tape them together along with the leaves as per your design. You can place the leaves on each side of the roses at the base, i.e. beneath the flower arrangement.
• Finally, tie the corsage with the decorative wire. Make sure that you tie it in the middle so that you can wear properly on your wrist. You can also bind the corsage to the middle of a thick elastic band with the floral tape. One can also use ribbons to make it look more stylish.

You can use different flowers (orchids, carnations or lilies) and fillers (baby's breath or ferns) and follow in the same manner to create a beautiful and stylish wrist corsage. The most preferable method for making wrist corsages is to put the main flowers at the top and fill the gap with small flowers or filler flowers.

If you think that the natural stems of the flowers are looking too bulky, you can prefer using a florist wire to keep the flowers in place. Using wire also allows easy additions of accessories such as bow and leaf fillings. Florist wire comes in a standard length of 18 inches and different wire sizes. You can use 22-30 sizes for a good corsage construction. Also, nowadays there are pre-made corsage bands that can be used instead of an elastic band or a decorative wire. One can make a wrist corsage with artificial flowers, which can be kept for a longer duration.
