- Be realistic: First closely examine your goals. Do you really need to lose 10 pounds, or are you just chasing shadows? Some people have perfectly well shaped bodies, but the quest for improvement is driving them to unrealistic goals. While the quest for improvement is alright, it is important that your weight does not go below the normal weight, otherwise you will end up becoming physically weak.
- Have a Healthy Breakfast: Start the day big. A heavy, fiber-rich breakfast packed with high fiber cereals will keep the junk foods away till lunch. It will also help fuel your morning activities. Eating a good breakfast helps in stalling your metabolism and creates a weight loss plateau.
- Whole Grains: How do you tell foods with whole grain? Simply put, the ones that are brown instead of the conventional white, are whole grains. So substitute the white bread with brown and white pasta with brown pasta! Whole grain foods are rich in fiber and therefore good for weight loss.
- Five Meals a Day: Experts say that in order to lose weight you need to break up your eating into 5 meals. This ensures that you do not resort to binge-eating during meal times. Suppose you don't have a breakfast, you will eat a really heavy lunch. Hence to avoid this, break up your eating into 5 meals.
- Watch the Portions: Continuing from the previous point, watch each of the 5 portions! Just because you are eating healthy doesn't mean you can eat a lot. You still have to regulate your eating. Even when you eat too much of a good thing, it still spikes up your calorie intake, which is detrimental to weight loss. So watch how much you eat too!
- Fill Up With Fiber: High fiber cereals and food keep you full for a longer time. Fiber is like a natural appetite suppressant. When you fill the body up with fiber, your body no longer craves unhealthy, high fat foods. Besides, it is said that fiber helps clear up blood sugar and cholesterol, which ensures weight management over a longer period.
- Exercise: Weight training helps increase the rate of metabolism in the body this in turn helps burn more calories. While doing your cardiovascular exercises, just push the intensity up a little bit. This marginal increase will help you lose weight that much faster.
- Keep a diary: It is always good to plan each meal and know how much and what you have eaten. Keep a diary of what you have eaten. This helps you keep your eating in check and chart your progress.
- Get a Hold on Emotional Eating: Some people can barely resist the sight of a hamburger. You have to get a grip on this fierce greed. Other people also resort to eating when they are sad, or they have nothing to do. If such a feeling arises, remind yourself of your long term goals. Remind yourself that you still have 10 pounds to go!
- Don't go to extremes: Many people in search of a quick fix don't diet. They fast. And in the long run they end up damaging their bodies. Don't resort to diet pills as they can be dangerous too.
