Ways of Getting Joint Pain Relief

Joint pain is a progressive disease that plagues many of us. Here's a look at getting joint pain relief.
As your body ages, you begin to feel the aches and pains of joint pain. Sometimes this is simply caused by wear and tear on the body. Whatever the cause, when a joint aches, our only thought is joint pain relief.

One of the quickest ways to find joint pain relief is by applying either heat or cold packs.

An ice pack is one of the quickest ways to bring about relief of an aching joint. They are easily made with a plastic zipper bag and ice. Fill the bag, zip closed and apply to the sore joint. In a matter of seconds the joint becomes numb and pain free. You can leave the pack in place for about fifteen minutes before removing it. This may give you the freedom to move the joint and have even longer relief.

The second quick relief is heat. You can get heat through an electric heating pad or through a hot water bottle that is filled with your hottest tap water. When using a heating pad, do not fall asleep or you could burn yourself.

You can also buy adhesive chemical heating pads at your pharmacy. Additionally, there are several grain filled pillows that may be heated in your microwave and placed on the sore joint. The grain allows the pillow to shape itself to your body and will not cause a burn if you happen to fall asleep.

Hot tubs are great for a fifteen minute soak. If you do not have access to a hot tub, then try a hot bath in the bathtub at home. You can use either before bedtime or in the morning or both.

A traditional remedy is the use of analgesic creams or rubs. As these creams are massaged into the skin, they heat up and bring pain relief. The massaging required is also helpful in pain relief. Be sure that you do not use a heating pad after applying these creams.

It is important that you keep joints moving even when they are sore. Inactive joints will only become more painful. Movement causes the fluids that have caused swelling to take place to be reabsorbed into the bloodstream. One way to keep moving is to join a hydrotherapy class. Many gyms offer these classes. If you are not a member of a gym, joining may be made worthwhile just by the benefits of these classes. Warmth of the pool brings pain relief and moving the joints extends the relief.

Many people are finding that taking supplements containing Glucosamine helps with joint pain. Although relief is not immediate, this supplement has the necessary ingredients to help your body rebuild cartilage in painful joints.

No one wants to suffer with joint pain. Joint pain can severely restrict your ability to live life. If you do not get joint pain relief from the above mentioned remedies, then you should speak with your doctor. Follow his or her suggestions for pain relief so that you can do the things that are necessary for your living of life.
