One main thing that you need to keep in mind for wood furniture care is that you should know what all is required, and what all needs to be done to remove the stains. Here are some steps meant for removing stains off wooden furniture. So wipe that worried frown off your face and make you own stain removal for your wood furniture. Just read on.

Method 1

Things you need:
  • Toothpaste
  • Soft Cloth
  • Lemon Oil
  • Furniture Polish and Wax
  • Cigarette or Cigar Ash
  • Baking Soda (in case there is no smoker in your family)
Procedure 1
  • Apply some toothpaste on the stain, and make sure that you coat it properly.
  • Leave for about 12 hours.
  • After that, remove the toothpaste coating with a soft piece of cloth.
  • Then again wipe it with lemon oil.
  • For the final touch, polish the furniture with furniture polish or wax.
(Use only regular toothpaste and not gel based toothpastes.)

Procedure 2
  • After the cigarette or cigar ash has cooled down, mix it with a small amount of water, and use it on the water stains of wood furniture. You will notice the difference immediately.
  • Better still, instead of using cigar ash, use cigarette ash. It tends to work better than the former, for some reason.
If there are no smokers in your family, then use baking soda instead of cigar or cigarette ash. Make a thick paste of baking soda and water and rub it on the stain. Leave it like that for 12 hours and then use a soft cloth and lemon oil to wipe it off. Finish it off with furniture polish or wax. You may have to repeat this step twice, in order to completely remove the stain.

Method 2

Another method is by using mayonnaise or oil. Apply some mayonnaise or oil on a paper towel and rub it on the affected area. Keep rubbing till the stain is completely gone. Mayonnaise also helps remove water stains which are many years old.

Method 3

That's not all. You can also use a mixture of cooking oil and salt. Rub it on the affected areas, leave on for 15 to 20 minutes, and then wipe it off. Your wood furniture is as good as new.

Method 4

Even a hair dryer can be used. But this has to be done immediately after the damage is done. The dryer will not allow the water to dry and create a water stain on wood furniture.

Method 5

If the stain is fresh, then use the dying out technique. Place a piece of cloth over the mark and then after setting your iron to the lowest setting possible, keep it on the cloth for about 15 seconds. Keep repeating this process until the stain is completely gone. This method is however not applicable for older stains.

If by any chance, none of these methods work, because all this depends upon the quality of the wood, then it is better to ask for professional help. Sometimes, it's a tough job removing the hard water stains from the wooden furniture. So, instead of worrying about having to throw away your best wood furniture, or hide it somewhere, just follow the steps, sit back, and watch the magic.
