Wasps in House

Wasps have always been viewed as dangerous insects, as they inflict horrible stings. Even though, you can prevent these insects from frequenting your premises, with some preventive measures, sometimes, you may find one or more wasps in house. If these wasps are found to hover around a particular area, there are chances that you find its nest in that area. Usually, wasp nests are found on tree branches, below the roof structure, on the walls and inside cracks and crevices. You may also find nests of wasps in the siding, beneath or behind furniture and other such locations.

While some species, like, yellow jackets are found to be aggressive than others, almost all wasp species are capable of causing painful stings, that can be more dangerous for allergic people. Black wasps in house are commonly found in houses, as most of them are mud daubers, who build a nest in areas with human activity. So, it is always better to eliminate these insects, once you find them roaming inside the house or in the yard. You must also take measures for removing wasp nests, both inside and outside your house.

How to Get Rid of Wasps in House

So, if there is a wasp nest in the area, you may find more than one wasp moving around that spot frequently. If you find a single wasp hovering around a spot, then, it may be trying to build a nest somewhere in the vicinity. In some cases, these insects may enter the house accidentally. Whatever, it may be, you have to eliminate them, so as to avoid wasp stings. This is more important for those houses with young kids or people with allergies.

• If you come across a single wasp roaming inside your house, you can kill it with a fly swatter or broom. Some people use vacuum cleaner to suck up wasps in house wall or ceilings and dispose it later. However, killing wasps in such a manner requires much care to prevent stings. This method is ideal, if there is a single wasp in the house. If there are more, they may attack you jointly.
• You may also use wasp sprays, to kill them. There are various commercial products that are meant for killing these insects, You may also use soap water solution as a wasp spray. Spraying soap solution may make these insects immobile and sometimes, may also kill them. It is said that spraying commercial sprays on this insect is an effective method for eradicating wasps in house.
• If you find several wasps in the house, it is almost certain that there is a wasp nest in house. In such cases, you have to find it out and go for wasp nest removal. You may either do it for yourself or contact pest control professionals. The latter suggestion is more applicable for those with allergies.
• There are various methods for removing wasp nests. If you want to do it for yourself, you must exercise caution, so as to avoid getting stung by these insects. Wear fully-covered clothes (preferably of thick fabric), face mask, goggle, gloves and shoes. The best time for removing wasp nest in house is before sunrise or after sunset. Avoid doing this during daytime, when, wasps are active.
• During late spring and early summers, these nests will be small in size with a few members. In such cases, you can spray insecticides meant for killing wasps on the nest and remove it with a broom. Make sure to crush the nest, before disposal. In other cases too, you can apply the same method, but with caution. Another method is to use a cloth bag to cover the nest fully and seal it tightly, before removing the nest from where it is attached to. Immerse the cloth bag in water for a day, before crushing and disposing the nest, along with the bag.

You have to be extremely careful, while killing a wasp or removing a wasp nest. In case of a wasp nest with several members, it may happen that any threat to a member or the nest may trigger a joint attack from the wasps. So, you must take preventive measures to avoid getting stung.
