Materials Needed
- 2-liter soda bottle
- Knife or scissors
- Colorful tape
- Bait (meat, beer, sugar water)
- Thin string
- From the top of the bottle, cut at least ¼ of the bottle with the help of scissors or knife.
- Place the ¼ cut top back on the bottle, but invert it and secure it with the colorful tape.
- When you use colorful tape, the wasps can easily get attracted to it.
- With the knife, make 2 small holes on the bottle. Place the thread through these holes.
- If you wish, you can also use the colorful tape to secure the string on the bottle.
- Hang the trap by the string on a tree branch, eaves, or anywhere where the wasps infest.
- Add little bit of bait inside the bottle. While using water-based baits, try not to fill the trap all the way to the top. You need room for the wasp to fly around in the trap.
- If the quantity of wasps is large in your area, hang more than one trap for better results.
- You can also use orange juice, vodka, jelly, molasses, honey, and melon rind as bait as well.
- After you hang the trap, the wasps will enter it but won't find a way out.
- Keep emptying and refilling the trap on a regular basis. This will make you use fresh bait and attract more wasps.
