Want to Conceive a Boy? Try Timing Your Ovulation

How to increase your chances of conceiving a boy by timing it around your ovulation date.
Want to get pregnant but thinking blue? Thankfully it doesn't all have to be left to chance. There are a few things you can do including timing your ovulation in order to increase your chances of conceiving a boy.

In fact, timing intercourse just right is the most important factor to stacking the odds in your favor. Let me explain:

Boy Sperm and Girl Sperm are Different

Did you know that it is actually the sperm that determines the gender of your baby? That's right it has nothing to do with the egg at all! There are two types of sperm, the X chromosome ones and the Y chromosome ones. If an X sperm reaches the egg first then you will have a girl. If the Y sperm gets there first, you will have a boy.

So how do we make sure there will be more Y sperm around than X when you ovulate? One thing we do know about them is that Y sperm can swim faster than X sperm because they are lighter. However, X sperm do have the advantage of being able to live longer as they are stronger and more resilient.

Timing Your Ovulation Just Right

You can use this to your advantage by holding off on intercourse until the day before and the day of ovulation. This gives the boy Y sperm the chance to race to the egg before they die. This is the opposite of trying to conceive a girl in which you would want to have intercourse 2 and 3 days before ovulation in order for the boy sperm to die off leaving mostly X sperm left when the egg arrives.

So How Do You Know When You Are Ovulating?

Sadly you cannot choose your ovulation date, instead all you can do is track it, predict it and work around it. Thankfully it is not that hard to do. There are many different methods you can use for predicting your ovulation including cervical mucus, basal body temperature and watching for other symptoms of ovulation.
