Basic Tips
Start by preparing your room. This includes taking the furniture from the side of the walls, if possible shifting to another room. Switch off the main power supply and remove all the switch plates and outlet covers. Also, you must lay a plastic sheeting or a protective cloth on the flooring to keep it clean. Collect the tools required for wallpaper removal, you will need wallpaper scoring tool, warm water, spray bottle, putty knife, sponge and a bucket. Start peeling from the corners for best results. Remember, wallpaper removal is a messy job, so take care of the furniture and flooring by properly covering it.
Vinegar and Warm Water
Take the wallpaper scoring tool and run it over the wallpaper. This will create thousands of holes in the wallpaper's surface. Now fill half bucket with warm water and the remaining half with vinegar. Rub the vinegar over a small section of wall using a sponge. This solution seeps through the holes and softens the glue used to stick the wallpaper to the wall. After half an hour spray water over the surface using a spray bottle to keep the surface moist. Now start the wallpaper peeling process. Peel the wallpaper from the wall's surface with the help of a putty knife or a wallpaper removal knife. If needed, spray more water over the wall. Repeat this until you remove the wallpaper and the glue completely from the wall.
Ammonia and Hot Water
Make a mixture of quarter cup of ammonia and 2 quarts of hot water. Use a wallpaper scoring tool to form holes on the wallpaper. Now soak the solution on the old wallpaper using a sponge. After 2 minutes start scraping the paper off. You can repeat the entire process if necessary.
Fabric Softener and Water
For wallpaper removal with fabric softener, fill about 3/4 of spray bottle with water and 1/4 with fabric softener. Once you have run the wallpaper scoring tool over the wall, spray the solution over the wallpaper. After twenty minutes, start peeling the paper off. Wherever the paper is not coming off the wall easily, you can spray more solution and proceed.
Though you are removing the wallpaper, it is a step towards giving your room a new look. So you need to do this procedure as carefully as any other wall decoration task. So choose one of the aforementioned solutions and give a new look to your room.
