Can Walking Really Help Me Lose Weight?
Walking is a great way to stay in shape, but can it actually help you lose weight? We take a look at what it takes to lose weight by walking.
The most successful weight loss programs combine eating right with some form of exercise. One of the easiest types of exercise to get started with is walking. It is easy to do, can be done almost anywhere and is a very low-impact workout. The question is can walking really help you lose weight.
The short answer is yes, as long as you do it right. Let’s dive in a little deeper. To lose weight, you have to start eating less and eating foods that are better for you. If you continue to live on high-calorie junk food, walking is not going to help you much in your weight loss efforts. But, if you do adjust your eating habits, include more fruits and vegetables and then start your walking workout routine, you will see the pounds start to come off.
Something as simple as a 30 minute walk each day or even two short 15 minute walks per day will help you burn more calories and help you get into better shape. Walking daily will also help increase your metabolism. A raised metabolism will cause you to burn more calories all day long, even when you’re just sitting on the couch.
Here’s another way walking can help you lose weight. If you find yourself looking for snacks when you are tired, unhappy or stressed out, go for a walk instead. The fresh air and exercise will help you feel better and keep you away for the comfort food with the extra calories.
Walking is also a great way to work your way into other types of exercise. Walking is a workout you can do even when you are completely out of shape. Just start slowly and take short walks. Over time, you will be able to walk longer distances and walk faster. Eventually, you try to jog for a short period during your walk. Then keep jogging for half your walk. Before you know it, you are able to jog for a mile or two. From there, only the sky is the limit.
The key to losing weight by walking is to do it consistently at least 5 times per week for a minimum of 30 minutes a day. Keep challenging yourself to walk faster and further as your body gets used to the exercise. Eat healthy and stay away from junk food (at least most of the time) and you will be able to lose weight.
