In order to know how much space a walk in shower requires in your bathroom, knowing its standard dimensions is important. On the other hand, several of you may not want to buy a readymade walk in shower but build one or carve out an area in your bathroom yourself. As such, a standard walk in shower for two people will be 72 inches or 6 feet wide.

Choosing the Appropriate Walk in Shower Size

As mentioned earlier, the standard dimensions of bathroom walk in showers are not convenient for many. Standard walk in showers are also difficult to clean, thereby causing inconvenience to those who invest in them. The walk in shower size should therefore, depend on personal requirements and comfort rather than what is assumed to be standard. In fact, a lot of people are now considering building custom walk in showers in order to accommodate their requirements. This means, they can build walk in showers with seats, or a tiled walk in shower without having to buy or succumb to standard shower enclosures and cubicles.

Another type of walk in shower design that people are now taking interest in is doorless walk in showers. These are proper shower enclosures that allow for numerous personalized designs. The seat, the flooring, the tiles, and materials for the enclosure can be all customized to suit personal taste. Here the walk in shower dimensions will again be as per your requirements and not the standards.

Instead of purchasing a ready-made walk in shower enclosure or cubicle, it is easier to simply build your own walk in shower. A walk in shower is after all an enclosed bathing space. Why not build it as per your desires and create a luxurious space to bathe in, even if it is for a few minutes?
  1. Decide on an appropriate spot, preferably a corner for the walk in shower.
  2. Decide on the size you want. Remember that it should adhere to the minimum standards; if you have the space it can definitely be larger than the standard.
  3. Decide the position of the shower. It should ideally be placed across a solid wall so that the water does not enter the dry area in the bathroom.
  4. Choose appropriate flooring for the enclosure. For instance, for an exotic look you could opt for pebbled tiles that give a massage like effect when you stand on them. Try and choose anti-skid flooring tiles for safety.
  5. Enclose the space with clear glass, frosted glass, stain glass, glass bricks, bamboo, or other such materials.
You have created a beautiful, luxurious shower enclosure for yourself.

So you now know that the dimensions of a walk in shower largely depend on your personal requirements and your idea of a luxurious bathing space. It does not matter what the standards of bathroom walk in showers are; even the few minutes you spend bathing should be comfortable for you. Hopefully this information has proven useful and helped you with what you were looking for.
