Wake
I wrote this poem based on a single line I thought of while brain storming for my novel 'Every death is but a waking moment'
As Death grasps you, you see your life again
The golden bricks of life your path they pave your way to eternal light
And show you life’s rebirth
A thousand miles of memory lay ahead
But eighty steps will bring you to the end
A thousand miles, a million memories
Each step brings another
Each step eternal days and lasting nights
All the emotions of a hundred days a second’s blur
In which all cries of joy and tears of sorrow are lost
Each step passes with blessing speed and painful time
And through this you see the light
A half minute walk takes eternity
As the last step is taken you look up at death, panting through gritted teeth
He stands in the light and holds out a hand
Your life is done you take it
‘Awake’ he whispers’ as eternal light shines through you
You lie there warm and content
‘Wake up’, you start, morning light shines into your eyes
‘Time for school’ your mother calls outside
‘We all must wake from the dream’ Deaths whisper lingers.
The golden bricks of life your path they pave your way to eternal light
And show you life’s rebirth
A thousand miles of memory lay ahead
But eighty steps will bring you to the end
A thousand miles, a million memories
Each step brings another
Each step eternal days and lasting nights
All the emotions of a hundred days a second’s blur
In which all cries of joy and tears of sorrow are lost
Each step passes with blessing speed and painful time
And through this you see the light
A half minute walk takes eternity
As the last step is taken you look up at death, panting through gritted teeth
He stands in the light and holds out a hand
Your life is done you take it
‘Awake’ he whispers’ as eternal light shines through you
You lie there warm and content
‘Wake up’, you start, morning light shines into your eyes
‘Time for school’ your mother calls outside
‘We all must wake from the dream’ Deaths whisper lingers.
