If you are like me who thinks scholarships are only for geeky people or athletes then you got to update your knowledge, just like I did. Only a small percentage of total scholarships are offered to academics and athletes. So, where do the rest go? Surprisingly, large number of scholarships are offered to average people like you and I. These scholarships are awarded to some unique quality in each of us. You must have heard an old adage that says 'every one of us is unique', but never believed it. After all what is so unique about having a twin or knitting a fabulous jumper or even getting a milk mustache, right? But, what if I tell you that these absolutely average characteristics can win you scholarships worth thousand dollars! There are several organizations and associations that offer scholarships to people with unique personality traits or distinguished talents (even though they may be of no use!).

Wacky Scholarships for Girls

While the cost of education is reaching new highs, it wouldn't harm to get a little funding for your college education. If you have been denied popular scholarships on the grounds of your less than perfect grades or non existent athletic abilities, then you can turn to several organizations which bestow scholarships to average students with a unique personality trait or unusual hobby. Usually, the scholarship amount is equivalent of a couple of thousand dollars. However, some organizations may hand out scholarships that are worth $7500.

Twin Scholarships
Until now, your parents may have borne the double burden of educating you and your twin. However, by qualifying for a twin scholarship, you can relieve your parents of this additional baggage. If you get admitted to George Washington University in Washington, D.C. your twin can get a 50% discount on her tuition fees. At Sterling College in Kansas, you and your twin both can avail a 50% discount on your tuition fees. Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia offers complete waiver on the tuition fees of one twin, when both enroll together. Besides, Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania offers a 45% discount on tuition fees, when both the twins are girls!

MIWW Scholarship
Make It With Wool (MIWW) is an initiative of American Sheep Industry Association, which offers scholarships worth $1000 - $2000 to knitters with exemplary knitting skills. You simply have to send a knitted woolen garment to the association. Design, presentation, creativity and coordination are usually taken into account while judging the work of candidates.

Little People of America Scholarship
LPA is an association which caters to the special needs of people with small stature. This association offers medical, financial assistance to its paid members who are below 4'10''. Even people without medical dwarfism can qualify for this scholarship. Financial aid is also provided to the immediate family of the members. The scholarship amount ranges from $250 - $1000.

SAMMY Award
Every year 25 scholarships worth $7500 each, are awarded to people with good academics and sports performance by a society named Body by Milk. To win the Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year award you have to send your picture with a milk mustache along with an essay about benefits of milk and your educational and athletic credentials.

Besides, the above mentioned scholarships, you can also consider applying to other societies who offer unusual scholarships based on certain physical, medical or social characteristics. These are -
