Volleyball Court Measurements
The Court
The court measures 60 feet in length and 30 feet in width. There is a lengthwise division of a court by a net. Further, that net runs across the entire width. This leads to formation of two 9X9 m halves of the court.
The Net
The width of the net is 40 inch and the arrangement of the net is in a way that the top part of the net measures 2.43 meters. That is above the middle of the court, for men's competition. For women, it is 24 meters.
Poles or Standards
Poles holding the net are fixed 3 feet away from either side of the court. So, it makes the length of the net 36 feet. That comprises 30 feet of the width of the court and the 3 feet on either sides.
Ceiling
In an indoor court, the ceiling measures 23 feet in height.
The Line
This refers to the line which is drawn 10 feet back from and also parallel to the net on both sides. This center line has a width of 2 inches. This is the line of attack, which a back row must jump from behind in case he spikes a ball.
Free Zone
The 2 parts of the court meant for the opposing teams are flanked by an area which is termed as the free zone. This free zone in size of a volleyball court has a minimum width of 3 meters. The players can enter this area and play in that area, but only after the serve.
In addition to that, there are lines indicating the boundaries of the court, which make them a part of the volleyball court.
Beach Volleyball Court Dimensions
The essence of beach volleyball is the same as indoor volleyball, though the playing area in a beach volleyball court is slightly smaller than indoor volleyball. The basic beach volleyball court dimensions are 8 X 16 meters. The boundaries are indicated with the help of 2 end lines, as well as side lines. There is no center line as in the indoor court. These lines are between 5 and 8 centimeters wide. But all said and done, the height of the net is the same in beach volleyball as indoor volleyball. Likewise, the depth of sand should be minimum 40 centimeters. The other measurements, like the net and the poles, etc. in beach volleyball and indoor volleyball are the same.
There is a back line or out-of-bounds line. In addition to that, there are 2 lines which are 10 feet apart, stretching from the back line, forming the serving zone. I hope you find this information useful! This is where I sign off!
