Things a Good VoIP Vendor Might Tell You about this New Internet Application

What is VoIP? VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is one of the newest ways that you can use the Internet to your advantage.

This article will discuss four important benefits that many a VoIP vendor can provide and additional technologies that you can enjoy via the Internet.

The Right VoIP Vendor Benefit #1: Pay Less, Talk and Listen More

Via the Internet and HTTP, the World Wide Web helps you to access more written and visual information for less money. A VoIP vendor (at least many of them) can help you access more aural information for less by saving you valuable costs on your long distance calls.1 Cheap VoIP from a good VoIP provider is a great service!

The Right VoIP Vendor Benefit #2: Choose Your Own Area Code

With some VoIP vendors/providers it doesn’t matter if you are using the same mobile device to make a call in San Francisco one day and then in Tallahassee, Florida the next. According to about.com2, some VoIP vendors/providers will allow you to select your own area code when you make a call, which makes it easier for you to save money when you are traveling the globe.

The Right VoIP Vendor Benefit #3: E-mail Services

The about.com website3 also mentions that you can access your email via your VoIP service. A VoIP vendor can sell you the products and services that can make it easy for you to discuss important issues while you are right in front of your PC or laptop and still have easy access to the information stored in these devices. Of course, a cell phone can provide the same type of mobility in general but I like the idea of taking a laptop (it would have to have broadband access) almost anywhere, without having to worry about charging my cell phone too. As long as I have Internet access and the services that a VoIP vendor provides, I have yet another way to make important phone calls.

The Right VoIP Vendor Benefit #4: Additional Offerings

You are probably already aware that with traditional telephone service plans, many phone companies will charge for additional services like 3-way calling or voice fax services. About.com states that "conference calling, 3-way calling, voice email and voice fax" are all potentially free with the right VoIP plan.4

Additional Applications via the Internet

1) The World Wide Web

Some people believe that the World Wide Web and the Internet are the same entity. In reality, they are different. The Internet, as I understand it from another online source5, is actually the structure (or functionality) of a system of networks that are connected together. The World Wide Web on the other hand is a series of pages or media that are created and transferred using HTML and HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol).

No matter who you are or what type of personality you have, the World Wide Web has become big enough to make getting involved in it almost essential to our ability to communicate with others in a variety of situations. Whether you decide to invest in a website or not, it is a good idea to invest in a domain name of some sort. It could be a domain name that represents who you are. For instance, if your name is Rob Crasmeyer, you should probably at least invest in the domain robcrasmeyer.com and other domain names that you think you could be valuable for yourself or for someone else in the future.

My mother told me once that online domains will become like real estate is today and I should have confidently told her that some domains have already become as expensive as offline real estate. According to another online source in fact, vodka.com was purchased for $3 million.6

Start buying domain space. You never know when it will come in handy.

2) Using E-mail to Do Something Different

Just about everyone knows that e-mail is one of the most prevalent and popular ways to use the Internet. However, many people do not realize that they can positively enrich their lives by doing more than just sending e-mail to friends or co-workers. Try finding an e-mail mentor. Decide on a subject that you would like mentoring in. Look for someone online, or even in your neighborhood, who would be willing to provide mentoring via e-mail. If you don’t feel comfortable with that idea, then consider sharing your own talents by starting an e-mail mentoring program. I was impressed by the Hewlett Packard E-mail Mentoring Program7 that Hewlett Packard started for students in the 5th to 12th grades. A mentor can truly make the difference for a child or a teenager who only needs words of direction from someone who can provide the necessary encouragement.

3) Chat Rooms

One of the main benefits of a chat room is that real-time conversations can occur online and they can also be recorded and printed for use. If you want to use a chat room effectively, 1) ask yourself a question that you want to be answered, 2) go to the chat room and see what you can discover from others who are interested in your same topic of study, 3) print the chat room conversation 4) highlight the portions of the conversation that are definitely related to your initial question and make sure that you label the printed documents with the initial question that brought you to seek the advice of other online chatters and 5) return to the recorded documents for review if necessary.

4) Message Boards

Message boards are a great way to let others know what’s going on in your life. If you are like most people who live in the fast-paced world of technology you might want to stay connected to your family by creating a family message board. At first it might be difficult to get your family members involved, but after a while, they will probably thank you for providing a way for family members with the opportunity to keep growing together through technology.
