If illusions seem to be changing into reality, visual hallucinations might just be the cause of it. This article will give you a brief idea about its causes, and the different types of hallucinations.

Different Types Of Hallucinations
Visual Hallucination: This is the most common type of hallucination. People tend to see things which don't exist, and in such a way that they don't really come to know that it's something they are imagining.
Tactile Hallucination: This type of hallucination is something very unusual, and people feel a touch of a particular person or an object. They also feel bugs walking or running down their skin. This happens after a prolonged period of aphetamine use.
Auditory Hallucination: Paracusia is another word for auditory hallucination, which means that people hear something which is not said by anyone or heard from anywhere. A lot of people come across such hallucinations where they hear a particular type of music playing in their mind. It is a very common thing which can happen to even a normal person, as a result of listening to a particular song repeatedly.
Lilliputian Hallucination: Things and people appear to be much smaller than their actual size. It is not the eyes which do this. It is the brain which tends to develop such type of a mind set.
Olfactory Hallucination: This type falls in one of the most common categories, and is temporary. People usually tend to get a smell of a particular thing very often, without its existence. Mostly these odors are unpleasant smells which make people vomit or feel sick.
Gustatory Hallucination: This is another very common kind of hallucination, where there is a sense of a particular taste in a person's mind and not the tongue.
Visual Hallucination Causes
Exhaustion and Fatigue
When an individual is extremely exhausted, the brain is half asleep. Exhaustion and fatigue results in the brain mixed up what is real and imaginary. This leads to hallucination. This cause of hallucination is the most common one, and is not serious, as it can be simply overcome by proper sleep and rest.
Depression
Depression is the main cause of visual hallucination. It leads to various habits and abnormalities in a person, which in turn leads to sleep deprivation, excessive use of drugs, abnormal condition of the mind, schizophrenia, dementia, and various other disorders related to the state of mind.
Intake Of Drugs
This is the root cause of visual hallucination, and also the most common one. Some of the drugs which cause visual hallucination are mentioned here. Marijuana is the most commonly used drug in the world. It contains a psychoactive chemical compound called THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), which weakens the brain cells and causes hallucination. LSD also known as Lysergic Acid Diethylamide. The effect of this drug keeps changing from time to time depending upon the person's mood. However, hallucination is the most common effect experienced by everyone who has this drug. This drug is supposed to be very harmful, and apart from just hallucinating, it causes various other problems like it increases the heart rate, blood pressure, and rapid mood swings. Magic Mushrooms, which are also known as 'shrooms', are natural hallucinogens. This is one of the drugs, which on intake, causes delirium. They contain two chemicals called 'psilocybin' and 'psilocin', which alter consciousness of the person. The aftereffects of consuming such hallucinogens causes temporary alteration in auditory and visual reception in humans, and might be one of the reasons behind inciting the sense of paranoia.
Treatment For Visual Hallucination
Those people who are facing such problems of visual hallucinations because of the intake of drugs, are generally sent to rehabilitation centers for recovery, and to get rid of problems related to drug and alcohol addiction. However, not every person who hallucinates intakes drugs, and for such people, treatment is based on the observation of the doctors and psychiatrist. Not in any way related to intentional drug abuse, visual hallucinations in the elderly takes place, and this is because of the medicines prescribed to them related to their various aging problem, which weakens their brain cells and eyes.
