Virtual Computer Pets - Virtual Pet Adoption
I first came to know about virtual computer pets’ one sunny morning right here in my own apartment. It began when my neighbors asked me to babysit their daughters because they had an errand to run. My heart melted when I looked at their sweet and innocent faces and I took them in! Unfortunately I did not know what to do with them, so I switched on the computer, seated myself on my red bean bag and told them to play games.....and lo and behold, they logged into a virtual pet adoption website and showed me their pet. Ever since that day, I log into the same website every single day in order to take my cat for a walk, give it a bath and just spend some quality time with it!

I am sure that there are lots of people like me who long to own a pet but are unable to do so because they live in an apartment, do not have time to look after it or travel a lot. Well! Don’t lose heart because the advances in technology have made it possible for you to be the proud owner of any animal you want! This article will tell you how to adopt a virtual pet online.

Virtual Computer Pets – What are they?

A virtual pet or digital pet is a type of artificial human companion. These pets are different compared to living ones because they have no concrete physical form apart from the hardware they run on. It is entirely the user’s responsibility to keep the virtual pet alive as long as possible. The user has to do this by feeding, grooming and playing with their virtual pet. Virtual computer pets are made realistic using various visual effects or interaction.

What can I do with my virtual computer pet?

There is plenty you can do with your virtual pet. In most of the websites, you can watch your bunny hop as well as see your pig, headgehog and duck jump when you click on them. Other animals such as the hampster usually sits on a wheel and spins and the puppy barks at you when you click on it. You can feed your animals with plenty of treats!

Types of Virtual Computer Pets

Basically there are three types of virtual computer pets. All three types have been listed below :
  • Downloadable Virtual Computer Pets

In this category you can play with your pet without being online. To be able to do this, you need to download the software from a website. Of course this is not always safe because when you download the software you are running a risk of downloading a virus along with the software. To avoid this, ensure that you download the software from a well-known reputable source.

  • Direct Online Virtual Computer Pets

As the name implies, online virtual pets need to be adopted directly online. Owning a pet here usually involves registered membership with the site. This is another good way of adopting a pet online. A word of caution, do ensure that you have standard and upgraded virus protection for your computer!

  • Dual Virtual Computer Pets

The pets under this category resemble stuffed toys, with the only difference being the code printed on a card that comes along with it. This card allows the user to access the websites in order to feed, clothe and even give medicine to their pet.

Virtual Pet Adoption

It is very easy to adopt a virtual pet. All you need to do is visit the various websites online, select one and register yourself. Once you have done that, you will be able to select the animal you want. You can choose a spider, a bunny, a pig, a hedgehog, a duck, a llama, a fish, a hamster, a tiger, a puppy, a kitten or even a penguin apart from lots of other animals. Now you can name it, specify how old you want it to be and select the gender as well. That done, you are now ready to feed, groom and form a lasting relationship with your pet!

Virtual pets not only fill that empty void in your life but can also be used to teach your child about sharing responsibility, especially if you would like to bring a pet home soon. To do this, you can select an animal similar to one you plan to bring home and give your daughter/son the responsibility of feeding, bathing and taking it for walks. This will familiarize them with their pet’s habits which will make the transition easier.

Now that you know about virtual pets, go ahead and lose yourself in those mesmerizing eyes!
