Violent Sorrow - Chapter 5

Chapter 5 - Spying

I found Alicia and asked her about Dany’s house. "Why are you asking me?" She asked suspiciously. At last, I knew where his house was. I turned around without answering her. Yes, there’s a reason. I’ve a plan that night.

Mom prepared dinner. I ate my dinner in the living room while I watched the television. She scolded me to eat in the dining room with her and dad. I refused. Her face became red. "VIOLET!" She yelled angrily.

Ugh… you know how painful my ears are? So, I stood up. With my dinner, I headed to my room and slammed the door loudly. Dad was startled with that loud noise. Mom continued eating.

When dad asked, "Doesn’t Violet looks strange lately?" Mom stopped eating with surprise as she thought the same thing. She became worried. "Yeah, she’s not herself. I wonder what happened," She replied. Dad was more worried to see her sad face. That’s why he tried to cheer himself and his beloved wife up. "Don’t worry about it. She must’ve been tired of the school works," he said with a smile appearing happily on his face.

Mom knew it’s a fake smile but she also knew he tried to cheer her up. She replied her husband’s smile before continue eating.

Oh, I heard it. I heard it all. I knew I’m not myself anymore. I didn’t even know what changed me. Since when it all started? Since - well, I guessed that made sense. I don’t really have to be surprise about it after all.

I didn’t really want to eat actually. I put my dinner on my bedside table and laid on my bed. I heard the clock ticks in the silent room. I stared at it. When it ticks to 11.00 pm, I locked the door. "It’s time," I said softly. I went to change my clothes.

I wore everything black. Lastly, I put on my black jacket and black shoes. I opened the window. I’m still hesitated if this was the right idea. Furthermore, it’s the first time I did it. But I must do it. Then, I saw my dinner. Right, I can’t just let it be spoiled.

After all things had settled, I jumped through the window and ran towards Dany’s house. I left my dinner near the window with it been opened. I’ll let the birds eat it.

I’m glad Alicia’s my best friend. She had told me everything about Dany’s house. She’s reliable. She told me that there’s a tree near the window besides the house. I could sneak in through that.

"James, Violet’s door is locked. She doesn’t answer me even when I called her and knocked her door many times," Mom called for dad. He walked upstairs and turned the knob. He yelled my name to tell me to get out of my room. Mom sighed. "What happened to her dinner?" She said. Dad replied.

"Hmm… maybe she’s tired and fell asleep. Let’s go into our bed, Vivian."

A crow flew by my house. It saw the food in my room so it flew in. As it was eating, it saw a picture of me on my bedside table. For a reason, it stared at it long enough with its wild eyes. After it had finished eating, it flew away. Some of its black feathers scattered on the floor.

I arrived in front of Dany’s house. A room was still, had its lights on. Maybe that’s his room. I started to climb the tree and looked into the window. It’s a bathroom so it could be safe for me to sneak in. After all, I didn’t see anyone in it.

I jumped to the roof carefully. I sneaked through the window without anyone noticing. What’s this? A light from another room? Was it Dany’s?

"The first night of summer holiday?" I heard. Ah! That’s Dany’s voice. He continued, "That’s the day after tomorrow. Okay, bye," he locked his phone’s keypads. He laid on his bed and stared at the ceiling with a smile.

"The day after tomorrow at 9.00 pm. I must watch that match with Adeline. I hope Violet wouldn’t be jealous or I’ll be in great trouble with her," he said happily.

He didn’t care, he’s happy to be with Adeline. He also hoped that I -!! Of course I’ll be jealous. Who wouldn’t? Doesn’t matter. I’ll follow them when that day comes.

Ugh… I can’t stand my anger. Smoke came out of my ears. I must let it out loudly. I took a deep breath in. "DANY!!" I yelled. He was shocked. He ran to his bathroom and opened the door. "No one? That’s weird. It’s very loud. I know there’s someone in here. Never mind," he said and left.

I sighed heavily. That was close. I’m glad I came out at the right time. I climbed down the tree and went home.

It’s a big surprise when I saw my dinner was completely clean. There were black feathers on the floor near the window. I picked up one of them. "It’s a crow’s feathers," I said. I washed my plate. Then, I cleaned up the room. It’s a very big mess with the feathers.

When I finished, I thought to go to the kitchen to get a glass of water. I’m lazy to turn on the lights so the kitchen was dark. But I can see clearly with the help of the moonlight.

When I tried to look at the moon, that’s when I saw it…
